Spotlight On Our Student Felix
This week, we spotlight our eleventh-grader Felix, who joined ISR in 2013. Felix has made great strides over the past few years, which his teachers have noted with enthusiasm. His former PE teacher, Ms. Racheva, noted: “I had the pleasure of teaching Physical Education to Felix from grades 3 to 9. He was a highly energetic and valuable player. Apart from sports, he is quite impressive in his studies as well. His caring nature and personality allow him to work well with others in a team setting, as he always respects others’ opinions even when they differ from his own. I am certain that Felix is going to continue to do great and creative things in his future.”
He is currently in his first year of the IB Diploma and is very keen to continue improving his academic performance. His teacher Mr. Kirk added,“Felix has been working studiously in his physics course to achieve great scores and understand key content. He also regularly helps his course mates by discussing key ideas and assisting in practical work.” Mr. Bates, Felix’s University and Career Counsellor, contributed, “I find Felix extremely focused, open-minded, playful, confident, and invested in his future. ISR St. Martin Celebration
ISR St. Martin Celebration
Wednesday, 8 November 2023
Our ISR Community united on Thursday to partake in the traditional ISR St. Martin celebration with a charming Martinsumzug procession.
The path was illuminated by the lanterns that have been lovingly crafted by our families and teachers, proudly carried by our students. Everyone joined in with spirited singing of the traditional St. Martin songs, accompanied by four talented musicians. Following the procession, we returned to the school for heartwarming food and beverages, with Ms. Ghica captivating us with the tale of St. Martin. Of course, the sweet delight of the traditional Weckmänner was generously shared with all participating families, thanks to St. Martin himself who joined the celebration with his horse.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Ms. Claudia Trapp, Ms. Judith Netzer, and Ms. Severine Schmidt for ensuring the seamless execution of the event, and for making sure everyone could savor the sweet delight of a Weckmann – all our 1,000 students as well as staff members.
At ISR, we take immense pride in the way our international community embraces each other’s traditions and comes together to celebrate. These cultural events throughout the year, like our St. Martin celebration, are not just opportunities for enjoyment; they are a testament to the importance of diversity and unity within our ISR Community, where we learn, grow, and celebrate together!

The festivities started with welcome words from our ISR Management Team, Ms. Lyons, and Mr. Soliman, who both highlighted the important meaning of the festival – the triumph of light over darkness.
The day unfolded with numerous dance performances by both children and adults, accompanied by a wonderful cultural program. In addition to the stage program, ISR hosted ten Indian Street food stalls, offering an array of Indian delicacies, snacks, and savory treats. Another highlight of the event was the Children’s Diwali Decoration Competition, with the chance for participants to win exciting prizes, including an ISR Summer School Voucher for next year. Moreover, the Diwali Bazaar showcased an array of handcrafted items that left a lasting impression on all attendees. The day ended in a Dandiya & Bollywood evening with a live DJ on site.
