Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Mehul
Spotlight On Our Student Mehul
This week we would like to spotlight our 6th Grade student, Mehul, who has been at ISR since Grade 4. His teacher Ms. Brand says: “Mehul is a very dedicated and conscientious student who is an excellent role model and a high-achiever. Mehul works extremely hard and is highly motivated.
He received the Outstanding Achievement award in Maths, Science, Social Studies, German and Music in Term 1! Well done to Mehul for his achievements and contribution to ISR”. Also his former music teacher Ms. Bucher still fondly remembers him and says “Mehul is a very hard worker who wants to be the best he can be. He is so polite and brightens up everyone’s day”.
We are proud to spotlight Mehul, one of ISR’s many outstanding students!
Our Student Spotlight project aims to highlight every Friday one of our outstanding students who is, appropriate to this year’s theme, striving for “extraordinary achievements” on a daily basis. No matter if its academic success, a special commitment, or outstanding character traits – we look forward to sharing each of these success stories.

Spotlight On Our Student Tim
This week, we like to feature the “Big Brother” of ISR, Tim, Grade 11. Tim has been at ISR since Kindergarten and surely knows his way around our school. His teachers, current and former, find it is very special to follow a student for so long and all agree that Tim has certainly matured a lot over the past few years.
“I see him growing into a good example of an IB student. Open, critical, respectful, and getting there with hard work as well” says his teacher Ms. Zic. His German teacher Mr. Kroenke says “Tim’s current academic success in my German class can be traced back to the fact that even when he is confronted with stress and failure, he keeps being self-motivated and goal orientated. He does not shy away from tackling very demanding works of literature in his free time, which shows that he is at the same time open-minded, courageous, and persevering“.
Tim still has his playful spirit and gives back to our school community. The Kindergarten children LOVE having Tim come read to them on a weekly basis and he has recently become a “Big Brother” to a Grade 5 student in Middle School. Both of them really enjoy spending time together each week! As a larger CAS project, Tim has decided to work with “It’s for kids e.V.“ to support local projects for children growing up under less fortunate circumstances. Tim has a big heart, is always very polite, and is a true friend. His everlasting good mood is contagious and he always has a helping hand to spare.
We are proud to spotlight Tim, one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

ISR Alumni Reception 2019
ISR Alumni Reception 2019
Friday, 20 December 2019
It is always a great pleasure to see again students coming from near and far at the annual ISR Alumni Reception that was held on Wednesday, December 18. Among them were students who since leaving ISR graduated from Cambridge and are currently working on their Ph.D., a student who currently studies at Wharton Business School (part of UPenn, an Ivy League university in the US), and also students studying in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, as well as other UK and US universities.
A panel of six ISR Alumni, representing Physics, English, Medicine, Law, Filmmaking, and Biochemistry, volunteered to answer questions from our Grades 9 &10 Coordinator Ms. McGee who hosted the event, as well as from our current Grade 10, 11 and 12 students. Topics ranged from ‘How well did ISR /IB prepare you for your studies?’ to ‘What is the best advice you could give to current students?’ to ‘Where are the best college parties?’ The event was rounded off with an informal get-together in the Cafeteria where finger food and drinks were served.
Thank you to everyone who attended, have a wonderful Holiday Break!
ISR Winter Concerts 2019
ISR Winter Concerts 2019
Wednesday, 18 December 2019
Another wonderful series of our beloved ISR winter concerts today came to an end with the last concert from Middle School. Our students, and in particular our music teachers Ms. Bucher, Ms. Gander, and Mr. Foy, have all been working very hard over the last few months to make this a success and the results were truly amazing!
With tunes from all over the world, from Kindergarten to Grade 12 (accompanying on piano), from glockenspiel to trumpet, and songs in several different languages, such as Japanese and Italian just to mention but two, the concerts mirrored the diversity of our school – of which we are all very proud! We now wrap up this year and wish all our families and friends a happy holiday season!
ISR visits the Chinese Consulate
ISR visits the Chinese Consulate
Tuesday, 17 December 2019
At ISR, we are very proud of our different nationalities and the associated cultures and customs. Just last week, Mr. Soliman, together with Ms. Hoffmann, visited the Chinese Consulate to discuss further cooperation. We are very pleased that our Chinese community is growing steadily and we would like to support the growth in this community.
Next year, we will celebrate the Chinese New Year Celebration. With the Chinese Consul General, Mr. Soliman and Ms. Hoffmann discussed the good relationship between ISR and how it could be further strengthened. At the end, the Chinese Consul General handed over a painting to Mr. Soliman. We thank the Chinese Consulate for the invitation and look forward to further strengthening our good relationship.
Our Russian Community celebrates Ded Moroz
Our Russian Community celebrates Ded Moroz

Last Wednesday, Ded Moroz visited ISR accompanied by his granddaughter and a few of their fairytale friends to celebrate the Russian New Year at ISR. First, they met our Kindergarten students and told them the story of Ded Moroz by dancing and singing together. In the end, everyone received candy and our students loved the show and the costumes.
So that the whole school could join in the celebration, our visitors went from classroom to classroom and the school was filled with music all morning. They also made homemade delicious Russian desserts.
We thank our Russian Community for this great event and we very much appreciate the effort everyone put in the preparation of the festivities. It was a lovely event and we look forward to many more cultural celebrations.

Spotlight On Our Student Dakshith
Dakshith is a wonderful Grade 1 student who always walks around with a smile on his face. According to Ms. Berg, his teacher, Dakshith stands out to his teacher and classmates because he is resilient in everything he does, always puts others before himself and is always the first to ask others if they are OK when they are looking down or sad.
Dakshith works hard every single day, is friendly to everyone and always makes the classroom look nice by tidying up and picking up trash. “We can always count on Dakshith and are so lucky to have him in 1B!”, declares Ms. Berg.
We are proud to spotlight Dakshith, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Hundreds of certificates have been given out so far and we are looking forward to an even more successful achievement this year.
The Hour of Code runs until 13th December. Well done ISR coders! Students can continue their hour of code journey at Hour of Code Learn.

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Paul
Spotlight On Our Student Paul
Paul, Grade 11, joined ISR in 2017 and Ms. McGee says he was a wonderful student to work with in Grades 9 and 10, as he consistently demonstrated an “Above and Beyond” attitude toward his school work. “I get the sense that his motivation comes not just from the desire to achieve top marks, but a true love for learning and curiosity about the unknown”, says Ms. McGee.
Last year, Paul set the bar high for this year’s Grade 10 students, by taking 6 IGCSE exams and achieving all A’s and A*’s and he is on the same track this year as an IB student with a 94 overall average. He is also leading the Communications Department on the MUN Executive Team at ISR by helping advertise the club to younger students, sharing news about MUN at ISR, and even helping to create an MUN student-run website.
As a part of his CAS-project, Paul dedicated his free time towards the Leo-Service Club Mönchengladbach, the youth organization of “Lion’s Club” which enables young adults to engage in social service activities. In the past months, Paul and his team successfully planned and organized the “Leo Advent Calendar 2019”, a lottery-based advent calendar where the profit goes to a local charity. This year the Leo-Cub calendar sale will support “St. Josefshaus Mönchengladbach”, an institution which provides apartments and activities for disadvantaged citizens.
We are proud to spotlight Paul, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!
