Looking back: ISR Summer Camps 2019

Looking back: ISR Summer Camps 2019

Saturday, 29 June 2019

Our motto, “It’s cool to be good”, doesn’t need a summer break and proved just that by successfully ending our ISR 2019 Summer Camps today!

Our students were particularly fortunate this year as we were able to offer four parallel camps thanks to the help of our dedicated teachers and parents.

The camps included the Cooking & More Summer Camp, the Summer Art Camp, the Sports Camp and, for the first time, a Ballet Summer camp! All participants had an eventful holiday week. They made many new friends from all over the world and after today, they will go on holiday with many beautiful memories to cherish for a long time.

We would like to thank our teachers, supervisors, parents and of course our students for another successful camp week! All individual reports and photos of the different camps will follow shortly here.

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Till

Spotlight On Our Student Till

Till has been a student at ISR since the middle of Grade 1. He is very curious and enthusiastic about learning, and he likes drawing and art, traveling, and playing football with his friends. Till has a very outgoing personality, which has led him to serve as Master of Ceremonies for the Primary Music programs twice. Till loves an audience, be they peers or adults.

It also makes him a student that others enjoy being around. Till loves to help and often does so without being asked. He participates in the school orchestra and overall, he is a fantastic student, academically, musically, and socially.

We are proud to spotlight Till, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Our “Student Spotlight” project aims to highlight every Friday one of our outstanding students who is, appropriate to this year’s theme, “Staying Ahead”. No matter if academic achievements, special commitment, or outstanding character traits – we look forward to sharing each of these success stories.

Musicbox Oxana – ISR Student Summer Concert

Last Sunday, the annual Summer Concert of our in-house music school, Musicbox Oxana, took place at ISR. More than 90 young musicians between the ages of 3-17 inspired their families, friends and teachers with their performances and musical talent. Participants ranged from beginner to advanced music students, which included multiple winners of music competitions. This allowed the audience to enjoy a broad spectrum of genres on Sunday!

All visitors were enthusiastic about the successful and harmonious Summer Concert and were impressed by the remarkable progress of each individual student.

Congratulations to the whole Musicbox Oxana team! Without the months of preparation, the dedication and enthusiasm of the music teachers, the concert would not have been possible. We are already looking forward to the winter concert performances in December!

Kindergarten Graduation

Kindergarten Graduation

Monday, 24 June 2019

Last week we celebrated two graduation ceremonies at ISR: one for our graduating class of 2019 and one for our Kindergarten children. The KG2 students graduated from Kindergarten to Primary School which is a major milestone for them and their families. During the ceremony, the KG graduates and their families were handed a graduation diploma from the ISR Kindergarten. It was an emotional scene watching the students light up with pride for what they have accomplished and also recognizing that they were now off to ‘big boy and big girl’ school.

After the ceremony, everyone gathered in the KG playground to end the day with a barbecue party for which a number of our parents took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate this wonderful achievement!

We wish all our prospective first graders and their families all the best and we wish you much success for Primary School next year at the ISR!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Ema

Spotlight On Our Student Ema

Ema, Grade 6, has been at ISR since Kindergarten. She is an accomplished pianist whose technical skill, phrasing, and feeling defy her young age. She has won first place in the NRW-wide level of Jugend Musiziert after many years of placing first in the regional level. At the end of June, Ema will be participating in a piano competition in Barcelona.

Ema also has a beautiful singing voice, she always knows her music, and can confidently lead her section. Ema is a very dedicated and a committed student and good athlete. She led the Environmental Club and ensured that the team members were united and on task. She always in a good mood, willing to help others, has kind words and compliments for classmates, and is “a student you can trust” to quote her homeroom teacher Ms. Perera. Last but not least, she has a great sense of humor and is a talented footballer.

We are proud to spotlight Ema, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Tuesday, 18 June 2019

Last Friday, June 15, we celebrated the successful graduation of 39 students from the ISR class of 2019 at the city hall of Düsseldorf! Around 300 guests, among them Mayor Thomas Geisel – the mayor of Düsseldorf, attended the graduation ceremony to honour our outstanding students! During the graduation ceremony the students all received their Sabis® High School Diploma.

After the welcome speech form Ms. Lyons, Mr. Soliman and Mr. Cete, Mayor Geisel, spoke to the graduates and the guests about the essence of integrity and cooperation beyond borders. Mr. Köller, representing the parents, expressed his pride over his daughter and her friends’ accomplishments. Mr. Köller also spoke about the importance of making your own experience and wished the students all the best for their future – wherever it might take them. Finally Cecimo Z. and Johannes R. spoke on behalf of the students and shared some dear memories from their past years and sage advice as the students move on to the next chapter in their lives. After cake and a last group picture in front of our American school bus, the students were released to celebrate their achievement with their friends and families.

ISR at the Rhein Polo Club - Family & Friends Cup 2019

Last Saturday we joined the excitement at the Family & Friends Cup of the Düsseldorfer Rhein Polo Club in Willich. In addition to the polo tournaments, there was a colourful family celebration for young and old on the entire grounds, which of course included our American school bus.

As a highlight for our little visitors, we brought our VR glasses with us, which our students normally use in the classroom to help enhance their studies.

Thank you to the Rhein Polo Club for organizing this exciting tournament and fun-filled family day. We are already looking forward to next year!

Spotlight On Our Student Marlene

Marlene, Grade 11, has been an inspiration within the music department at ISR.  She prepares her own performances and supports other students with their performances. Marlene is a standing member of the ISR orchestra, volunteering her free time to hone her performance as well as help others. At the same time she makes sure she devotes enough time to her academic studies.  Marlene has always worked diligently to ensure consistently high grades for her coursework & her final exam.

Recently, at the Schuhmannfest 2019, Marlene not only performed her own piano composition but also the Solo Clarinet part in Monas composition. If that wasn’t enough, she went above and beyond her commitment, by acting as the Master of Ceremonies for the ISR Schumannfest Event, even preparing introductory speeches in German for the local audience. Marlene, along with Adrian, prepared the questions for the exclusive interview with global piano star Ms. Gabriela Montero, representing ISR in a truly professional manner.

Marlene approaches all that she does with enthusiasm and a very positive, can-do attitude. Truly an inspirational student, who will go far in life.

We are proud to spotlight Marlene, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Our “Student Spotlight” project aims to highlight every Friday one of our outstanding students who is, appropriate to this year’s theme, “Staying Ahead”. ISR Students visit the European Central Bank

ISR Students visit the European Central Bank

Wednesday, 12 June 2019

On June 6th, grade 10 students, accompanied by Business teacher Ms. Zic, had an opportunity to visit European Central Bank in Frankfurt. Through a combination of textual, visual and interactive elements, students learned about the ECB’s role in setting monetary policy for the Euro Zone and what it does to keep other financial institutions safe.

Another great experience for our students! A huge thank you to the EZB for taking their valuable time to show our students the world of finance in Europe.
