Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Zoe

Spotlight On Our Student Zoe

This week, we are proud to spotlight our eighth grader, Zoe, who joined ISR in 2020. Since her arrival, Zoe has consistently impressed teachers and peers alike with her resilience, dedication, and remarkable growth both academically and personally.

Zoe’s homeroom teacher, Ms. Chroni, shares, “Zoe is an outstanding student. I had the pleasure of being her Math and Homeroom teacher for two years, during which she consistently demonstrated focus, humility, and a strong work ethic. She asks thoughtful questions in a respectful manner and expresses herself with exceptional clarity and confidence.”

Ms. Ghica, Academic Head for Grades 2 & 3, writes, “I’ve had the privilege of knowing Zoe since she was in Grade 3, when she and her twin sister first joined us all the way from Great Britain. I still remember her first year—she had to navigate the challenges of joining a new school community right in the middle of Covid. That wasn’t easy.

At first, Zoe was a little shy, but her resilience, determination, and strong academic skills quickly began to shine through. She has grown into a confident young person who continues to inspire others with her quiet strength and her commitment to excellence.

Zoe, we are so proud of you and the amazing journey you’ve taken here at ISR. Keep shining—you’re a true example of perseverance and growth!”

Ms. Freise, Zoe’s sixth grade teacher shares, “I taught Zoe in Grade 6. She was very inquisitive and always up for a challenge. She is very smart and studies a lot. It was always a pleasure to have Zoe in class.”

Zoe’s Music teacher, Dr. Perez, adds, “When I first met Zoe in Music class a couple of years ago, she was very open about the fact that Music was not her favorite subject. Despite this, she has excelled academically in every activity and assessment. Zoe is always respectful, well-prepared, attentive, and engaged – asking thoughtful questions and offering insightful answers. She also brings a wonderful sense of humor that brightens the classroom. She is simply a joy to teach!”

Ms. Racheva, Zoe’s Sports teacher, adds, “I have had the pleasure of working with Zoe for the last few years and I can confidently say she is an outstanding student. She demonstrates exceptional dedication to her studies, consistently producing high-quality work that reflects both critical thinking and creativity. In addition to her academic excellence, she brings a positive and enthusiastic attitude to PE lessons. She always participates with energy, encourages her classmates, and shows great sportsmanship. Her cooperative spirit and determination make her not only a strong student but also a valued team player. With her intelligence, discipline, and positivity, I am certain that Zoe will continue to achieve great success in any academic or personal endeavours she pursues.”

We are proud to spotlight Zoe as one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

A natural leader, he supports his teammates, encourages collaboration, and makes everyone feel included. ISR Students Visit Huawei Headquarters in Düsseldorf

ISR Students Visit Huawei Headquarters in Düsseldorf

Our grade 7–9 students visited the Huawei headquarters in Düsseldorf today, and what an incredible experience it was! Guided by our dedicated teachers Mr. Nišić and Mr. Krönke, a fantastic group of 31 students enjoyed an unforgettable day thanks to the warm hospitality and inspiring presentations from the Huawei team. We are also especially grateful to the team members who traveled from Berlin and Hamburg to join the visit and share their expertise.

One of the highlights was seeing artificial intelligence in action—not just as a classroom concept, but as a powerful real-world tool shaping the future. This gave our students a unique first-hand perspective on how the knowledge they acquire at school connects directly to groundbreaking technology and innovation.

We are proud to foster such strong partnerships that bring learning to life beyond the classroom. At ISR, we remain committed to providing our students with unique opportunities that prepare them for the world ahead. This trip was a true reflection of our motto: It’s cool to be good!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Valentina

Spotlight On Our Student Valentina

This week, we are proud to spotlight our second grader, Valentina, who joined ISR in 2024. She was warmly nominated for the Student Spotlight by her homeroom teacher, Ms. Hartmann, who shares:

“Valentina joined ISR last year and has been a dedicated, hardworking learner. She begins each school day with a big smile and a positive attitude. Every day, she gives her best. Whenever Valentina encounters a difficulty, she tries even harder. She truly embodies our ISR guiding principle: ‘We enable great minds and strong characters.’ I can’t wait to see her thrive this school year.”

Valentina also made a lasting impression on her first-grade teacher, Mr. Noomen, who recalls:

“Valentina joined ISR late last year, which was a big challenge, as she suddenly found herself in a school where almost all lessons are taught in English. Despite these adjustments, she came to school each day in a very good mood. She always tried her best during lessons and was self-reflective in every subject. It was a pleasure to work with her.”

Her English teacher, Ms. Barba, supports these impressions, adding:

“Valentina is hardworking, kind, and always willing to help others. She truly embodies our ISR motto: ‘It’s Cool to be Good’, and it has been amazing having her in my lessons.”

Finally, Ms. Vrem, the Academic Coordinator for Kindergarten and Grade 1, shares:

“Valentina is a bright-eyed, hardworking student who is always positive in her interactions with peers and teachers.”

Cultural Exchange and Dialogue: Visit of Chinese Consul General Yu to ISR

Cultural Exchange and Dialogue: Visit of Chinese Consul General Yu to ISR

We had the great honor of welcoming the Chinese Consul General in Düsseldorf, Mr. Yu, to ISR shortly after his appointment. He was accompanied by Consul Kou, Head of the Department for Bilateral Relations, and Ms. Zhang, Protocol Officer at the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Düsseldorf.

The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by Chinese students, the ISR Management Team, our Chinese teaching staff, and our Chinese Community Representative, Ms. Yuting Hofmann, all of whom were delighted to welcome them. Our Chinese students, together with Ms. Ting Wang-Schütze, had prepared a personalized welcome banner in advance, which they proudly displayed.

Following the welcome, a guided tour of the kindergarten and school was conducted by our secondary school students Lucy and Lawrence. They enthusiastically introduced the Consul General and his delegation to our kindergarten and school daily life. The IT Department presented our innovative approach to integrating artificial intelligence into our curriculum, as well as showcasing our humanoid robot. Additionally, Lucy and Lawrence introduced our University & Career Counseling team – a key factor in why ISR students consistently achieve above-average success in the IB Diploma and go on to attend prestigious universities worldwide. During the tour, the visitors also had the opportunity to attend a Chinese language lecture led by Ms. Li. The Chinese language program is offered at ISR from Grade 6 through the IB Curriculum.

After the tour, Consul General Yu met with our eleventh-grade students for an enriching presentation in which he spoke about China’s long history, technological advances, and the strong relations between Germany and China. The students engaged in a lively discussion and were warmly invited by the Consulate to attend the China Festival in Duisburg, taking place from September 19th to 21st, 2025, for an immersive experience of Chinese culture.

Following the Career Talk, the Management Team once again met with the guests to discuss the positive and long-standing cooperation between the Consulate and ISR. During this meeting, Consul General Yu presented ISR with a very special gift from the Consulate – an original painting of the “Four Gentlemen” (四君子, Sì Jūnzǐ), a classic motif in Chinese art symbolizing virtue, resilience, and ethical ideals.

We sincerely thank Consul General Yu, Consul Kou, and Ms. Zhang for their visit, as well as everyone whose dedicated efforts made this day a great success!

Career Talk with Alumna Emma Keune, Class of 2022

Career Talk with Alumna Emma Keune, Class of 2022

This week, we were delighted to welcome back ISR Alumna Emma Keune (Class of 2022) for a special Career Talk with our secondary school students. Emma returned to ISR to share her inspiring journey in the field of Humanities and to encourage our students to explore the diverse opportunities that this field of study can offer.

The talk was warmly opened by Dr. McGee, who expressed his deep gratitude to Emma for volunteering her time and for sharing her inspiring passion for the Humanities. Speaking to our Grade 11 students, Emma offered valuable insights into her academic journey, the importance of pursuing one’s passions, and the transferable skills developed through studying the Humanities. Following her main talk, Emma engaged a selected group of Grade 11 and Grade 12 students in a focused workshop on Greek Tragedy, directly drawing on elements from her current studies and giving our students a hands-on glimpse into the richness of the subject.

At ISR, we are always grateful to our alumni who generously volunteer their time and return to inspire the next generation of students by sharing their knowledge, experiences, and enthusiasm for their fields.

Emma reflected on her visit with the following words: “I am very grateful for the warm welcome back to ISR, and the opportunity to speak to Grade 11 students and offer them some advice on their university journey, from the perspective of someone who was in their position once. I am also grateful to be able to share my passion for my subject and to showcase the less-obvious skills students can develop, which are still very relevant and applicable in many developing fields, all in addition to elaborating on the breadth of knowledge the Humanities offer!”

We thank Emma wholeheartedly for her contribution, her passion, and her continued connection to our ISR Family!
