ISR at the Sonnenblumenfest in Meerbusch
Monday, 30 September 2019
This past Sunday we joined the annual Sonnenblumenfest in Meerbusch. Despite the rain, we enjoyed the day and visitors could find occasional refuge in our American style school bus during the heavy rain.
Getting to sit in the bus and get their faces painted was a huge highlight for the children! They got to express their creativity by decorating paper frames in the warm dry bus and of course the little artists got to take their art home afterwards. The ISR Choir braved the weather and gave an impressive performance. Our 3rd and 4th graders showed cased their skills by peforming three songs that they sung to the amazement and delight of the audience including their parents.
Many thanks to our dedicated music teacher Mrs. Bucher, who prepared the students for the performance and accompanied them during the day. Taking part in the Sonnenblumfest is now a tradition for us and we happily do it every year! We look forward to next year’s festival and hope for much sunnier, drier weather!
Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Catarina

Spotlight On Our Student Catarina
This week we would like to spotlight our 7th Grade student, Catarina, who has been at ISR since 1st grade! Catarina is a bright, friendly and honest girl who is known to impact people with her smile. This year she joined as a Senior Prefect in the Sports & Health department in our Student Life Organization® (SLO) for the first time and she enjoys working with her classmates on different projects.
Catarina is not only a great asset to the Student Life Organization®, but also contributes positively to her learning environment. She is always ready to help her fellow classmates and provide assistance to others. Catarina’s friends particularly appreciate her honesty. A recent example describing this good quality occurred last week. Catarina found a considerable amount of cash under the keyboard of her computer. The seventh-grader knew very well that the money was missing for another student and informed our librarian immediately and handed the money to her. We are very proud of the seventh grader and very impressed by her morals and values. Mr. Mo couldn’t have said it better: Stay like you are!
We are very proud to spotlight Catarina, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!
Our Student Spotlight project aims to highlight every Friday one of our outstanding students who is, appropriate to this year’s theme, striving for “extraordinary achievements” on a daily basis. No matter if its academic success, a special commitment, or outstanding character traits – we look forward to sharing each of these success stories.

SLO® Leadership Weekend
SLO® Leadership Weekend
Friday, 27 September 2019

Last weekend, 22 SLO® prefects from our Student Life Organization Leadership Team went to Wiehl for a leadership retreat. Our Head Prefect and Deputy and Senior Prefects, worked throughout the weekend on building leadership, communication, and organizational skills to prepare them for their journey as an SLO prefect.
Prefects also worked within their departments to define and create a plan to achieve SLO goals under the mission statement of the year : Shaping SLO ® to be more interactive, impactful, and memorable for the ISR community! We also toured a cave, played human soccer, and went on a team hike. In the evenings, we went for ice cream and played team bonding games and Henning, our Head Prefect, even designed our very own SLO Escape Room! Be sure to keep your out eye on this amazing team of students! Great things are sure to come this year!
Opening of the new, ecological artificial turf pitch
Opening of the new, ecological artificial turf pitch
Friday, 27 September 2019

On Thursday, September 26, we had a successful opening of the new artificial football pitch at PSV Neuss. In total, around 1.3 million Euros have been invested in this merger and from now on not only will the 500 members of the PSV benefit, but also our approximately 1,000 students, will benefit from the modernization of the PSV facilities. Building the artificial turf pitch has put an emphasis on sustainability as the use of microplastics has deliberately been avoided.
Our guest of honor, the Mayor of Neuss, Bürgermeister Reiner Breuer, cut the ribbon together with our ISR students and officially opened the new football pitch. Mr. Breuer underlined the importance of this project and expressed his appreciation of the cooperation with ISR. He said the transfer of the district sports facility to the ISR is an advantage for both parties: “Today is a great day for the city of Neuss. Thanks to a very special form of cooperation many, especially young athletes, will benefit from this renewal and the ones that are still to come in the near future”. After the opening remarks by the mayor, Mr. Soliman, Managing Partner of ISR and Mr. Fuchs, Advisory Board Chairman of ISR, also give some welcome words to the visitors. PSV First Chairman, Mr. Kudzia, also said how pleased he is to cooperate with ISR as it ensures high-quality sport facility for the future generations.
It was a great event rounded out with an excellent reception including delicious finger food from Broich Catering & Locations and a mock soccer training on the new pitch by the American Talent Projekt players. Neusser Bürgermeister Reiner Breuer eröffnet Kunstrasenplatz für internationale Schule ISR, den PSV Neuss sowie sportbegeisterte Bürger
Friday, 27 September 2019

ISR at “Familienfest Rhein-Kreis Neuss”
Tuesday, 24 September 2019

Last sunday, ISR participated in the “Familienfest Rhein-Kreis Neuss” which is a fun and family focused festival in Neuss. Our well known American style school bus was parked close to the main stage and we enjoyed the diversified stage program. A number of different clubs, associations, institutions and volunteers were there and offered various fun activities to the visitors. We had our virtual reality (VR) goggles with us and allowed the visitors to step into a different world.
By wearing the goggles, our students get to go on many exciting excursions during class, for example they can take a trip through the rainforest, discover amazing historical sites and much more without leaving the classroom!
We had a lot of fun at the festival and were happy to be part of this great family celebration!
Charity Event at the Deutsche Bank Düsseldorf

Last Wednesday, several of our Grade 7 students participated in a unique project in cooperation with the Deutsche Bank an der Kö and Spendezeit e.V.. Together with the artist Elena Panknin, the seventh-graders therefore created a work of art at Deutsche Bank that the artist had planned in advanced in a variety of styles.
Each student was given their own topic and was able to express themselves artistically. Following the creative part of the event, parents, friends, employees and two guests of honour, Düsseldorf Mayor Ms. Zepuntke and Mr. Rolshoven, President of the Düsseldorfer Jonges, came together to finish the event at a get-together. The artist proudly handed over the finished painting to the ISR students, which will be on display at ISR following the artist’s exhibition at Deutsche Bank.
All in all, the evening was a complete success! We are proud to have had our Grade 7 students invited to participate in this unique event.
At ISR, it is important to us to teach our students a sense of responsibility from an early age and to sharpen their awareness for the well-being of others. We would therefore like to thank everyone involved for this joint project, and we are pleased that our students had the opportunity to support the Donation Time Association together with Deutsche Bank and the artist Elena Panknin through the painting.
ISR Cricket Team Wins Tournament
ISR Cricket Team Wins Tournament
Monday, 23 September 2019

Yesterday, our ISR Cricket Team, together with three players of the Düsseldorf Blackcaps team, won a cricket tournament at St. George’s in Cologne. Our students integrated the three additional players very well and showed a great team performance.
The match against St. George’s was very close, but good ball handling and fielding, especially in the last over, ensured our win. The win was especially exciting because St. George’s has a long established Cricket Team as compared to our newbies on the ISR team.
Please give Shreyas, Ritvik, Ryansh, Vansh, Krish, Aarav, and Parth a high five, if you see them! Congrats, boys!
Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Evan

Spotlight On Our Student Evan
This week, we would like to spotlight Evan! Evan is in grade 8 and with the help of a friend, he decided to create an SLO® activity for 1st–4th graders called ISR Multisport Club. The goal was that the students would get the opportunity to play a different sport every other week.
Each week, Evan decides which activity will take place and he sits down together with Mr. Banks, who is supervising the activity, to make sure the logistics/timing fit for the age of the group. Through these meetings, Mr. Banks has seen his planning and management skills improving weekly. Using his strong leadership and creative skills, Evan has already successfully guided a group of 20 students through 3 different activities. We love and encourage the initiative of an 8th grader running their own SLO® activity.
We are proud to spotlight Evan, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!
