ISR Grade 12 IB Visual Arts Exhibition Vernissage 2026
ISR Grade 12 IB Visual Arts Exhibition Vernissage 2026
Last Thursday, our annual ISR Grade 12 IB Visual Arts Exhibition Vernissage took place, showcasing the creativity and dedication of our talented students Madison, Emily, Annica, Leon, Jason, and Larui. Over the past five terms, each student developed and refined a carefully curated body of work that expresses their artistic themes and intentions.
Each student explored a unique concept: Madison investigated how perspectives can be manipulated, linking visual illusion with global issues such as climate change. Emily created an interactive, detective-inspired exhibition that invites viewers to actively engage and uncover meaning. Annica’s work, Phoenix, explored light and darkness as symbols of resilience and transformation. Leon focused on storytelling through layers, depth, and composition, showing how subtle elements shape perception. Jason addressed stress in high school life, using cartoons to present serious topics with humor. Larui’s exhibition reflected a personal journey of identity and self-exploration, encouraging viewers to consider the question, “Who are you?” As part of their final IB Art experience, students also curated their exhibition spaces, carefully considering display, lighting, and the overall viewer experience.
Ms. Henebry, Head of the Art Department, shared her pride in the students’ commitment and growth. During the event, our students presented their work, guiding visitors through their exhibitions and reflecting on their artistic journeys.
We are very proud of our IB Art students for their hard work and creativity. Their exhibition once again demonstrated that at ISR, learning goes beyond the classroom. We wish them all the best in their upcoming IB examinations and continued success in their future academic and career paths!
ISR Nowruz Celebration 2026
ISR Nowruz Celebration 2026
Last week, our ISR Persian Community brought the spirit of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, to life at our ISR Campus in Neuss, sharing this meaningful tradition with our school community. The celebration filled our campus with joy, color, and cultural richness!
Our Persian families beautifully decorated a traditional Haft-Sin table, showcasing the seven symbolic items that represent rebirth, health, beauty, prosperity, and growth. They also prepared a selection of traditional Persian sweets, which our students, staff, and teachers were delighted to enjoy during their break and after school.
Celebrated for over 3,000 years at the spring equinox, Nowruz marks the Persian New Year and symbolizes renewal, hope, and new beginnings. At its heart lies the Haft-Sin table – “Haft” meaning seven and “Sin” referring to the Persian letter S – displaying seven meaningful items including sprouts (rebirth), garlic (health), and apples (beauty). Beyond its beautiful traditions, Nowruz remains a timeless symbol of resilience and optimism, reminding us that even after the longest winter, spring always returns.
We sincerely thank our ISR Persian Community for organizing this wonderful event and sharing their vibrant culture with us. At ISR, we celebrate the richness of our diverse community and cherish the opportunities to learn from one another’s traditions. Moments like this remind us of the strength and beauty that cultural diversity brings to our school, and we are deeply grateful for these value experiences.

Spotlight On Our Student Helena
This week, we are proud to spotlight our twelfth grader, Helena, who joined ISR as a first grader in 2014. Helena is set to graduate this spring, marking the successful culmination of her journey at ISR.
Ms. Ghica, who welcomed Helena to ISR all those years ago, reflects:
“Helena’s journey at ISR is one of those rare stories that quietly reminds you how quickly time passes. I still remember her arriving in Grade 1 – bright-eyed, curious, and already full of personality. Even back then, she had a spark: smart, quick with a joke, and always bringing an energy that filled the classroom.
Over the years, it has been a joy to watch her grow from that lively little student into the confident Grade 12 graduate she is today. Seeing that transformation is one of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher. Helena has always had a wonderful mix of intelligence, humor, and spirit, and those qualities will no doubt carry her far in whatever path she chooses next.
Helena, congratulations on this important milestone. It has been a privilege to have been a small part of your journey from the very beginning. I wish you every success, happiness, and adventure in the road ahead!”
Helena’s Grade 12 homeroom teacher, Mr. O’Brien, adds:
“Helena always has a smile on her face and a polite greeting each morning I meet her in homeroom. Her positive attitude is a reminder to us all to focus on what is important.”
Ms. Poestges, Head of Marketing, who recently traveled with Helena on a school trip to China, shares:
“I had the pleasure of getting to know Helena even better during the ISR trip to China, where she participated alongside other ISR Secondary School students and Alumni. Helena has an incredibly big heart, truly cares about the people around her, and carries herself with excellent manners and kindness. She is polite, thoughtful, and simply a joy to be around. We can be very proud that Helena is part of the ISR Community!”

ISR Chinese New Year Celebration 2026
Chinese New Year Celebration
Celebrating the Year of the Horse
Saturday, March 7th, 2026
At ISR, celebrating cultural diversity and fostering community are at the heart of all we do – a spirit that shone brilliantly this past Saturday during our 2026 Chinese New Year Celebration. The school was alive with festive energy as students, families, and staff came together to honor the Lunar New Year, savor traditional flavors, and welcome the Year of the Horse.
The festivities began with an engaging stage program that highlighted the richness of Chinese culture. We were honored to welcome a delegation from the Chinese Consulate Düsseldorf, including Deputy Consul General Wu, who kicked off the festivities with a special Chinese New Year greeting. Attendees were then treated to traditional dances and songs, performed with colorful costumes and captivating energy. ISR students also showcased their talents, adding a personal touch that beautifully blended tradition with creativity. A heartfelt thank you goes to the Chinesische Künstlergruppe Nordrhein-Westfalen for supporting this incredible stage program with their professional and captivating performances.
In the cafeteria, guests delighted in a flavorful buffet of Chinese cuisine, thoughtfully prepared by our dedicated Chinese Community. This included delicacies such as Bobo Chicken, Taro Ball & Grass Jelly Soup, Spiced Braised Beef, and Steamed Buns. The celebration continued with hands-on activities that brought traditions to life: students created candy art, practiced calligraphy and traditional ink printing, and explored immersive VR experiences thanks to ISR’s IT department. Musicbox Oxana was also on hand to showcase their offerings and allow guests to try out various instruments.
Our SLC student volunteers sold drinks and popcorn, and our beloved school mascot, Spirit the Horse, made a special appearance – perfectly symbolizing the Year of the Horse and bringing smiles to all attendees.
A special thank you goes to Mrs. Hofmann, our ISR Chinese Community Representative, for organizing this memorable event alongside ISR’s Chinese Community, as well as to all the staff and students whose efforts brought the celebration to life. By honoring these traditions, ISR continues to nurture inclusivity, cultural curiosity, and community pride, strengthening the bonds that unite our international school.

Our Student Anton’s Remarkable Science Project
Congratulations to our 13-year-old student, Anton!
This week, he was featured in the Rheinische Post with an interesting article about his impressive success at the regional Jugend forscht competition. His project explored the fascinating question: “Can a Drone Be Controlled with Thoughts?”
Anton received a special “Make – Creative with Technology” award for developing a brain-computer interface (BCI) that uses EEG signals to control a mini-drone. With a headset measuring brainwaves, processed via Python and Bluetooth, he can already make the drone move up and down.
Having started his research back in Grade 5, Anton now aims to contribute to the advancement of assistive technologies that support people with physical disabilities and to further explore human-machine interaction.
We are very proud of Anton and his dedication, creativity, and curiosity – he truly embodies our ISR motto: “It’s cool to be good!” Our special thanks go to Mr. O’Brien, Head of Science at ISR, for his continuous support and encouragement of our students’ innovative projects.
