Looking Back: Summer Art Camp 2019
Looking Back: Summer Art Camp 2019
Tuesday, 02 July 2019
Colourful brushes, painted canvases and radiant children: last week saw the start of the school holidays with a creative Summer Art Camp week. The programme, led by Bettina Schulenberg, was fully booked a few weeks after it was announced. This is of course, due to the stellar reputation Ms. Schulenberg has as an amazing art teacher.
The program begun every morning with the classic “artist’s” breakfast, where the students and Ms. Schulenberg all sat together, exchanged ideas, discussed events of the previous day and thereafter, began their creative process. Ms. Schulenberg took great care to make the camp as varied and interesting as possible for all the participants. Both beginners and advanced students tried out different painting techniques on canvas, they painted individual dog sculptures, practiced on their own models and learned a lot about painting techniques and art in general. Lunch breaks were spent outside in the sunshine, where further questions about art were discussed.
The highlight of the Summer Art Camp was the closing vernissage of the students’ artworks created during the week. The students invited their parents, friends, teachers and family members. So many of the guests were impressed by just how much the students had learnt during the week and how beautiful their artworks were, the exhibition was indeed a huge success!
We would like to thank Ms. Schulenberg for her commitment to this creative Art Camp and we look forward to the upcoming Summer Art Camp in 2020!
Ms. Schulenberg offers creative courses in her studio at Hermannsplatz 7 in Neuss. If you are interested please visit her website: kunst-am-platz.de

Darya is a bright, hardworking individual who feels strongly about helping others. She spends her time volunteering at a local elderly home, of which the residents are really grateful for. Darya is also involved in the collection of donations for children who suffered severe burns in Iran.
Beyond her fantastic social and academic skills, Darya is passionate about music and gives private fun guitar lessons to her classmates in her spare time. She is also a tennis player. Her teacher Mr. Krönke says this about her “Darya is humble and polite while at the same time being highly ambitious. She takes criticism to heart and tries to improve wherever she can. She is a good friend to her classmates and I am sure that a bright future awaits her”.

56 graduates of ISR Neuss clearly exceed the worldwide average of the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the Corona school year 2020
Friday, 17 July 2020
ISR students averaged 36 points in their final report cards, 6 points above the global average / More ISR graduates than ever before / Ten percent of the degrees belong to the international top 3 % best list / Numerous study places offered by renowned universities abroad
Despite the adversities faced during this school year, Grade 12 IB graduates of ISR International School on the Rhine in Neuss have improved their grade point average this year, from 35 to 36 points. In fact, the 56 Grade 12 students who graduated this year scored 6 points above the global International Baccalaureate average of 30 points. “These excellent results of the students cannot be emphasized highly enough. After all, the pandemic with its continuing uncertainties and the special examination conditions was already a particular challenge and burden,” comments Emil Cete, Head of Upper School and IB Coordinator.
He continued, “The fact that the students mastered the situation so well was mainly due to what we at ISR call strong character: their own will to learn, their commitment and being robust. The comprehensive support from the teachers and the entire staff also contributed to this. It is also important for us that with this result we have confirmed our status as the leading international private school in NRW.”
In addition to the excellent results, having 56 students in the graduating class is also remarkable: in the two previous years the graduating class had less than 40 students. “The increase in the number of students at ISR to a total of 1,000 is now making itself felt in larger graduating classes,” explains Peter Soliman, Managing Partner of ISR, “this is another sign of the school’s sustained popularity and quality.”
No matter which scale the results are compared with, they are excellent: when converted to the equivalent in the German Abitur system 40% of ISR graduates achieved a grade in the 1.0 to 1.9 range, and 10% achieved 40 IB points or more. To contextualize this, in 2019 roughly 2% of IB graduates worldwide achieved 40 IB points or more! “These great results can only be achieved with a consistent effort during the entire year. A few outstanding students are not enough,” Mr. Soliman states, “to prepare the entire class for the exams in the best possible way, we, therefore, provide individual support through intensive lessons tailored to ability and need.”
“Thanks to the results, graduates this year have been offered places at the best universities worldwide,” emphasizes Eileen Lyons, the Director of ISR. In the USA these include full scholarships from Princeton University as well as offers from the University of Southern California, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Miami. In Great Britain, ISR students have offers from the University of Cambridge, Imperial College, London School of Economics, University College London and King’s College London. In addition to this there are offers from Canada (University of Toronto) as well as from universities in Japan, South Africa, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, France, and Switzerland. Ms. Lyons continues, “The fact that so many binding commitments have been made by international universities despite the corona uncertainty is a great sign of confidence in our work. Applications from our students are very convincing and universities have been extremely satisfied with ISR graduates in recent years.” It must be noted that even though about 75% of ISR students are likely to go to university in another country, ISR always recommends to all graduates a combination of subjects that will allow them to study in Germany.
“Advice on which university best suits the preferences, skills and career planning of young people is a key service offered by ISR,” adds Mr. Soliman, “that’s why our University and Career Counsellors, Ulrike Wacker, and Dr. Susan Wiltshire, start talking to students about their career plans at an early stage” As the counsellors explain, “our university orientation will continue in the coming months, even though graduation certificates have long since been distributed: due to the corona pandemic there is more to organize before the start of studies than in previous years.” This aside, ISR students, both past and present, can always seek advice regarding career steps, and the ever-growing alumni network is an increasingly vital tool for growing support systems.

A week of an exciting and creative ISR Art Camp came to an end last Friday! Ms. Schulenberg, one of our ISR parents, led the ISR Art Camp again this year with a limited number of students. She prepared an exciting week for our students to try their hand at different artistic expressions and let their creativity run free. One of our upper school students, Lennart, supported Ms. Schulenberg during the camp week, and he did an amazing job – thank you Lennart!
The week culminated in an amazing art exhibition in which the students displayed the creative artworks that they had worked on all week. The results speak for themselves!
We are already looking forward to the ISR Art Camp next year!

Corona-Krise: Schüler und Familien der ISR Neuss nähen 250 Masken für die St. Augustinus Gruppe
Monday, 18 May 2020

Outstanding IB Results - Graduation Class of 2020
Outstanding IB Results – Graduation Class of 2020
Tuesday, 07 July 2020
On 12th June 2020, the ISR Graduating Class of 2020 received their ISR High School Diplomas during a much anticipated celebratory ceremony. After weeks of waiting, the IB (International Baccalaureate®) results have finally been published, opening the doors for our students to attend prestigious universities worldwide.
On behalf of the entire ISR community, we congratulate our graduates on their outstanding International Baccalaureate® (IB) exam results! Overall, our graduating class achieved an average of 37 points out of 45 points. Thus, we not only continued our above-average performance from the previous school year but exceed it. Besides, 10% of the class earned 40 or more points, which corresponds to an Abitur score of 1.3 or better.
Our graduates may choose from an average of four university offers per graduate from renowned universities from all over the world, not including those offered by German universities. This year’s university offers include Princeton University (with substantial scholarship); University of Southern California; University of Notre Dame; University of Miami; University of Cambridge; Imperial College London; London School of Economics; University College London; King’s College London; University of Toronto, as well as universities in the Netherlands, Japan, Italy, Spain, France, Canada, Switzerland, and South Africa.
These outstanding results as well as the numerous offers from high ranking universities reflect on the success of our teaching staff and the tireless efforts our students have sustained throughout their journey at ISR. Our graduates have excelled and leave ISR as young adults with high ambitions and goals.
They are all further proof our motto, “we enable great minds and strong characters”. We are very proud of their outstanding achievement!
Our doors will always remain open for our graduating class and their families, and we look forward to seeing many familiar faces again in December at our Alumni Reunion.
We wish you all the best for the future!
