IGCSE Certificate
In Secondary School, students have the option to take International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) courses and exams, for which they have prepared in Grades 9 and 10.
- A UK based middle school curriculum
- IGCSE courses and exams in Grade 10
- British universities look carefully at the results in these examinations
- American and universities worldwide are also interested in the results of these middle school examinations
Recognition as the German “Sekundarabschluss I” (Mittlere Reife) depends on the applicable requirements. Families should confirm their individual case with the competent authority, the Bezirksregierung Düsseldorf, Tel: +49 (0)211 4754476.

The IGCSE: An Internationally Recognized Qualification
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), awarded by Cambridge, is one of the world’s most recognized qualifications for students at the end of Grade 10. Developed in the UK and examined by Cambridge International, it is taught at international schools around the globe and sets a rigorous, internationally benchmarked standard for secondary education.
Universities pay close attention to IGCSE results: British universities in particular look carefully at these examinations when considering an offer, and American and other international institutions equally recognize and value the qualification in their admissions decisions.
IGCSE at ISR
At ISR, students prepare for their IGCSE courses and examinations during Grades 9 and 10, with the exams administered at the end of Grade 10. Our students sit IGCSE examinations in subjects including German, English, Mathematics and the Sciences.
Although the examinations are optional, we place great emphasis on them – for good reasons:
The results at the end of Grade 10 show whether a student is ready for the demands of a further academic career
The IGCSE provides rigorous, internationally benchmarked preparation for the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12
The exams help students make well-informed decisions about their subject choices for the Diploma years
Strong IGCSE results give our students a proven academic foundation and a competitive edge with universities worldwide
Our Results 2026: Academic Excellence
Our students’ achievements this year speak for themselves. With 45 candidates completing 205 examination entries, our students achieved:
- 66% of all grades at A*–A
- 94% at A*–B
- 100% at A*–C – every single entry at grade C or above!
- In total, an impressive 66 A* and 70 A grades
A Steady Upward Trend

As the chart shows, this success is not a one-off but part of a steady upward trend. In our IGCSE courses in German, English, Mathematics and the Sciences, the share of A*–A grades has grown year on year – from 50% in 2024 to 58% in 2025 and now 66% in 2026 – while A*–B grades rose from 75% to an impressive 94%.
In both 2024 and 2025, our students’ results were also well above the global averages (40% and 43% A*–A respectively), and we look forward to seeing this year’s international comparison when the global 2026 results are published in November!
