Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Anderson

Spotlight On Our Student Anderson

Anderson is one of our American exchange students from The Talentprojekt. As his mother is German, he already spoke some German before he came and has been helping his fellow exchange students to settle in. His coach, Mr. Baumann, says Anderson has a very professional athletic attitude and is a leader on the pitch, not to mention always the first one out there.

His teacher Ms. McGee says Anderson is a very hard working and intelligent student. In fact, ALL of his teachers have recommended him for the end of term recognition! Also, his host parents say Anderson integrated extremely fast and is enriching their whole family. In his spare time, Anderson enjoys cheering on his host brother playing soccer and takes time to watch TV with his younger host sister. Friends, teachers, or family – everyone agrees that Anderson is the kind of person you like to be around!

We are proud to spotlight Anderson, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Our Student Spotlight project aims to highlight every Friday one of our outstanding students who is, appropriate to this year’s theme, striving for “extraordinary achievements” on a daily basis. No matter if its academic success, a special commitment, or outstanding character traits – we look forward to sharing each of these success stories.

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Anna

Spotlight On Our Student Anna

This week we spotlight Anna from Grade 12, who has been at ISR since her Kindergarten days. Anna is currently preparing for her IB final exams and would like to study mechanical engineering in Aachen after graduating ISR. For Anna and her whole family, sport is an important part of their lives. Anna is passionate about carriage driving. Anna has won several tournaments and this summer she became the Show Champion with her horse Titus at the annual Rheinischen Championship for Carriage Drivers.

In order to be able to practice this sport regularly, Anna often works on her own carriage to make improvements and to prepare it after long tournament days. She chose to study mechanical engineering in order to better understand the construction of her carriage and to optimize it for future competitions. We are extremely impressed by Anna’s determination and are sure that she will bring home many more medals.

Another passion of Anna is photography. So for her CAS project, she decided to create calendars with her own photos and sell them. The proceeds will be donated to the charity organization “Education for all e. V.” which supports the Masaai School in Kenya. Anna traveled with her parents last summer to the Masaai Mara Natural Reserve and got to know the school first hand. Her family enjoyed safari rides, which allowed Anna to collect plenty of photographs for her calendar. Anna has consciously chosen the organization “Education for all e. V.” in order to provide the students with education and teaching materials.

With her sporting successes and her social commitment, she is a wonderful role model for her peers! We are proud to spotlight Anna, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Mohamed is a wonderful grade 2 student. Since joining ISR last year, Mohamed has shown strong character in and out of the classroom. Each day he tries his hardest during lessons, persevering even when the material gets difficult. Always with a smile on his face, Mohamed is incredibly kind to each and every student in the classroom as well as to all of his teachers.

He’s enthusiastic about learning and is a credit to ISR! Or to quote his music teacher Ms. Bucher “He’s another ISR treasure!”

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Otto

Spotlight On Our Student Otto

This week we are proud to put our 6h grader Otto in the student spotlight. His former homeroom teacher Mr. Foy says “If we could somehow tap the endless supply of energy that Otto has, we would solve the world’s climate and pollution problems in an instant! Since I’ve been his teacher, I have been amazed by Otto’s energy and positive outlook on life. We can measure success in many ways, but for me personally the most important measure of success is the extent to which we positively impact the lives of others. With his warmth, good humor and endless reserves of energy, Otto has enriched the lives of many of his peers and has inspired countless laughs along the way. Therefore he can count himself already as someone who has achieved much in his life that is truly meaningful.”

Also his current teacher Ms. Muller can only confirm that Otto is truly a joy to teach. “Otto is an incredibly positive and creative learner. He never allows difficult challenges to hinder his ability to finish the task at hand. His motivation and perseverance are incredibly admirable and absolutely amazing to watch” she says. One of Otto’s other teachers, Mr. Bernard, says “Otto is one of those students that, even when you are reprimanding them for something, will still find a way to make you smile. His kind and humorous nature, as well as his willingness to work hard and apply himself in the lessons, made him an enthusiastic and popular member of the class”.

We are proud to spotlight Otto, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Clara

Spotlight On Our Student Clara

Clara, Grade 6, is a wonderful example of a student with a strong sense of autonomy and determination to succeed. Her teacher from last year, Mr. Foy, says for one so young, she articulates herself extremely effectively and structures and justifies her arguments with skill. “She can often be found using her talents to try and talk me out of giving English homework!”

He also says Clara is incredibly strong-willed and is a perfect example of an empowered young woman, who uses her extensive capabilities to call out and stand up to inequality and intolerance in her surroundings. “Despite how much I enjoy the endless debates I have with Clara, what I admire most about her is how systematically reflective she is with regards to her learning. She embraces challenges and is consistently looking for the next improvement in her development and this is the most defining and impressive aspect of her character. I will be sad not to teach her in the future but look forward to her putting the world to rights in the not-to-distant future”.

Clara is also a very talented athlete. She has a strong personality and a competitive attitude. Her PE Teacher, Ms. Racheva, says Clara is always on top, trying her best and definitely is a role model and a great example of “Never Ever Give Up”. Tennis is her passion and she has already won several tournaments in school and at her tennis club.

We all love Clara’s smile and motivation to be the best in school, in sports, and last but not least as a friend.

We are proud to spotlight Clara, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Kento

Spotlight On Our Student Kento

Kento, now in Grade 12, has been at ISR since 8th Grade. He is a dedicated and brilliant Mathematician, Physicist, and Computer Scientist. He is planning to study Computer Science at a German university and has just completed his C1 exam in German, which he completed after only 4 years of study!

However, Kento is not just a brilliant student, he is also very active in school life. About two years ago, he started organizing our Japanese book section in the library. He still comes in several times a week to shelve and organize the books. Our librarian Ms Keaton says, “He started this and continues it on his own initiative. We never asked but we greatly appreciate all his help!”

Kento also co-leads the WeDo Lego Robotics SLO® Activity each week, where our younger students are programming their own games and quizzes. Furthermore, Kento really cares about the environment and helps students and staff ensure plastic bottles are sorted and recycled. Finally, he is also always there to support our Japanese community and helps new families settle in at school.

We are proud to spotlight Kento, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Lisa

Spotlight On Our Student Lisa

Lisa is now in her last year of school and is currently preparing for her IB exams. She is interested in studying Sciences and is taking high level Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. For her IB CAS project, Lisa has continued with the Ocean Cleaning Project, first initiated by her older brother.

During the siblings’ first trip to Egypt, Lisa says she and her brother were shocked by the amount of plastic in the ocean and therefore decided to start removing it. After that, Lisa started to inform herself of plastic’s impact on the environment, animals, and humans. However, as Lisa could not always travel to the beach, she started with several local projects around the Düsseldorf area. One of them at ISR, where she started to inform our younger students about the consequences of plastic pollution.

Ms. Morris, Head of Primary, says “Lisa did a great job spreading awareness throughout primary school. Her presentation was engaging and gave the students a lot to think about regarding how their actions affect the environment. She is promoting environmental awareness throughout the school and is a great example of someone with a great mind and strong character!” Another local project where Lisa is involved is “Gutes Karma für Grevenbroicher”. Recently, she participated at the Rhine Clean-up in Neuss for the second time.

We are proud to spotlight Lisa, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Cameron

Spotlight On Our Student Cameron

This week, we spotlight Cameron, one of our exchange students from “The Talentprojekt”,  in Grade 10. Cameron’s hometown is San Diego, California and he came to Germany in August to experience the German culture and to improve his already excellent football skills. He is a goalkeeper and actually owns a pair of Manuel Neuer’s goalkeeping gloves!

Cameron is truly the sort of guy you enjoy seeing every day. He brings a positive spirit to our school and likes to make things better for everyone around him. During the School Area Championship, he joined the ISR Team but due to an injury he, unfortunately, couldn’t be our goalkeeper. Instead, he played on the field and helped coach the goalkeeper, giving him useful tips and cheering him on throughout the game. The team ended up winning the championship!

Cameron is well-liked among his new friends at ISR and he is known for his good sense of humor. His host parents here in Germany are delighted to have him in their family and look forward to the many nice memories that are still to come. Also academically, Cameron is a very hard-working student and his teacher Ms. McGee says he is ambitious and always willing to improve.

We are proud to spotlight Cameron, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Catarina

Spotlight On Our Student Catarina

This week we would like to spotlight our 7th Grade student, Catarina, who has been at ISR since 1st grade! Catarina is a bright, friendly and honest girl who is known to impact people with her smile. This year she joined as a Senior Prefect in the Sports & Health department in our Student Life Organization® (SLO) for the first time and she enjoys working with her classmates on different projects.

Catarina is not only a great asset to the Student Life Organization®, but also contributes positively to her learning environment. She is always ready to help her fellow classmates and provide assistance to others. Catarina’s friends particularly appreciate her honesty. A recent example describing this good quality occurred last week. Catarina found a considerable amount of cash under the keyboard of her computer. The seventh-grader knew very well that the money was missing for another student and informed our librarian immediately and handed the money to her. We are very proud of the seventh grader and very impressed by her morals and values. Mr. Mo couldn’t have said it better: Stay like you are!

We are very proud to spotlight Catarina, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Evan

Spotlight On Our Student Evan

This week, we would like to spotlight Evan! Evan is in grade 8 and with the help of a friend, he decided to create an SLO® activity for 1st–4th graders called ISR Multisport Club. The goal was that the students would get the opportunity to play a different sport every other week.

Each week, Evan decides which activity will take place and he sits down together with Mr. Banks, who is supervising the activity, to make sure the logistics/timing fit for the age of the group. Through these meetings, Mr. Banks has seen his planning and management skills improving weekly. Using his strong leadership and creative skills, Evan has already successfully guided a group of 20 students through 3 different activities. We love and encourage the initiative of an 8th grader running their own SLO® activity.

We are proud to spotlight Evan, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!
