Spotlight On Our Student Emma

This week we spotlight Emma, a Grade 10 student. Currently, she is preparing for her IGCSE exams in May.  Her continued hard work and attentiveness will help bring her success in the IB Diploma Programme next year where she will take HL Chemistry and HL Biology to prepare for future studies in Medicine at University.

As a student, Emma is diligent and conscientious, she always strives to do her best, embracing each task put before her. She is attentive and thoughtful towards her friends and peers, and always prepared to give up her time to help a friend in need. Her hobbies include taking care of her horses, reading, writing stories and drawing portraits.

Spotlight On Our Student Yiting

Yiting is an extremely conscientious student both inside and outside school. Not only does she fully apply herself to her IB studies, but she already engages in additional preparatory reading for her intended degree program in Law, asking questions about the subject at every opportunity. Remarkably, she still finds time to practice piano for several hours each day.

She enters music competitions and, despite describing these as nerve-wracking, she has considerable success. Recently, she entered a prestigious piano competition and took first prize! Her UCC-Counselor, Ms. Wiltshire, comments that “her talents, grit, and enthusiasm are most impressive!”We are proud to spotlight Yiting, one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

Spotlight On Our Student Arthur

This week, we shine the ISR spotlight on our 2nd grader, Arthur. His teacher Ms. Little has written some lovely motivational words exploring why she would like to put Arthur in the spotlight, “Arthur is a wonderful student and is a great role model to his classmates. He is an extremely kind, helpful and hardworking boy. Arthur is always friendly and kind to others. He tries his best in every subject and because of this hardworking attitude he has made so much progress this year.

“At the start of the school year, Arthur was a little shy but with time his confidence has grown and he has shown us all what an amazing person he is. Just today, I spotted him in the cafeteria with a dustpan and brush sweeping the floors and wiping the tables of his own volition! Arthur is always doing things like this to make our classroom and school a nicer place to be and I would love for this to be recognized throughout the school.”

Spotlight On Our Student Yuto

This week, we put the ISR spotlight on our 2nd grader Yuto. Yuto has been at ISR since 2018. His German teacher Ms. Feinstein says “he might be a quiet student but pays close attention in class and works very hard to succeed. He knows when to ask questions and continuously volunteers to help. Yuto is a good friend and role model to his peers.

It’s a pleasure to have him in my class.” His current homeroom teacher Ms. Carolus could not agree more. “Yuto is hardworking and a joy to teach. He loves being challenged in Math” she says.  Mr. Mo adds that Yuto, who loves sport, is very active and is an amazing soccer player.

Spotlight On Our Student Subramanian

This week, we shine the ISR spotlight on our 4th grader Subramanian, or for short, Subu. It is his first year at ISR but he is already a solid part of our family. “Subu is an excellent student who is as smart as helpful. He does his work diligently and with great enthusiasm. He is a great team player as well, supporting other students with his knowledge and kindness” says his teacher Mr. Winkelmann.

Also his athletic teacher Ms. Schierl confirms that  Subu always enriches her Monday athletic class: “he is always the first one to ask what we are going to do in today’s lesson, is always ready to kick off immediately and always has a positive and cheerful manner that easy rubs off on the people around him” says Ms. Schierl.

Last Friday, as more than 90 players competed against each other in the Regional School Chess Championships and our Primary students placed 2nd to qualify for the next round in Düsseldorf, Subu was particularly outstanding as he won all his matches and was honored as the best player of the entire tournament! Congratulations Subu!

Spotlight On Our Student Hendrik

This week we shine the spotlight our 10th grader Hendrik, who has been at ISR since 2017. However, as he also spent his first four years of school at ISR, he is a beloved returning student. Hendrik is not only an excellent student and an avid reader, but also a very talented musician with a long history of awards for successfully playing the clarinet.

Since December last year he is even part of the “Jungen Bläserphilharmonie NRW”, a youth ensemble for talented young musicians in North Rhine Westphalia. In January the ensemble performed live on the WDR3 national radio!

Henrik is very friendly, well-liked and popular among his peers. His former homeroom teacher Ms. Shepard fondly remembers Hendrik and in particular how he was always ready to help. “Hendrik could always be depended upon to complete any job properly and responsibly. I’m delighted to see him in our student spotlight” says Ms. Shepard.

Spotlight On Our Student Yuiko

This week, we shine the spotlight on our Kindergarten student Yuiko. Yuiko is a bright, active and inquisitive little girl and, whatever the challenge, Yuiko is on it! She is caring and always demonstrates concern for her peers, and this is what makes her so valued in the classroom. She is an enthusiastic learner who enjoys school every single day: you just have to look at her to see this!

“If you ask Yuiko to help create a story, that story is going to be full of funny creatures with strange powers that takes place in a world of rainbows! You will discover how creative, smart and funny she is. It was a real pleasure to teach her last year. She makes us all so proud!” says her former teacher Ms. Zahri. “Ms. Zahri is so right!” adds her current teacher Ms. Ramirez, “Yuiko is fearless, compassionate, helpful, well mannered, intelligent and still makes room to be so fun and silly. Mrs. Elena and I are BEYOND lucky to have her be a part of Kinder. Yuiko is a bright shining star!”

Spotlight On Our Student Lea

Lea, who has been at ISR since Grade 8, is now in Year 1 of her IB Diploma Programme studying Maths Analysis and Approaches, Computer Science and English Language and Literature at High Level. Ms. Macanovic, her English Teacher, says “It is a pleasure to teach Lea as her creative contributions liven up the classroom. It is not often that we as teachers see someone her age with such a passion for creative writing and critical thinking.” Lea is currently exploring possible university studies in Information Technology and Bio-Chemistry.

Lea has also been actively involved in ISR’s Student Life Organization.®  Last academic year Lea served as the Deputy Head of Lower School, and this year is the Deputy Head of Outreach where she focuses her team on creating and spreading a positive atmosphere. She and her team are responsible for the wonderful spirit days each month and yummy bake sales.  In December she successfully led her team to celebrate the Holidays with a candy cane sale, a bake sale and a Christmas/Holiday spirit day. Her hard work, passion and dedication tell us that she has a successful future ahead of her at ISR and beyond!

Spotlight On Our Student Yannick

This week, we are proud to spotlight Yannick, a Grade 3 student. Yannick has been with ISR since Kindergarten and is definitely the “reading star” of our school. No wonder his favourite place is the Library! His teacher Ms. Schmidt says “Yannick always has an interesting book that he is busy reading and is happy to share his stories with his friends.”

She also says Yannick enjoys creating and drawing with the other students in class, “Yannick is a hard worker and always does his best. He is a very enthusiastic and much-loved member of Grade 3.” Also, his former teachers fondly remember him, “Yannick is a diligent student who always tries his very best and it was a pleasure to have him as a student. He is helpful, kind and an inspiration!” says his former Homeroom Teacher Ms. Carolus.

His teacher Ms. Duenas also remembers their time together in Kindergarten, “It was a joy to have Yannick for 2 years in Kindergarten. Yannick came in only speaking German but picked up English really quickly. We have so many lovely memories together, we still greet each other in passing and it’s great to see how much he’s learned throughout the years. It brings me joy to see that he loves reading. Keep reading Yannick!“

Spotlight On Our Student Stella

Stella, a Grade 6 student, joined ISR last school year and has adapted very quickly to our school. She is a passionate and very talented horseback rider and speaks German, English and French fluently. Her teacher Ms. Adamczyk says, “Stella is a very polite and friendly student with a positive warm personality and a great attitude towards learning. Also, she is always willing to help others.”

Her current homeroom teacher can only confirm this, “Stella is a delight to have in the classroom. She is bubbly and always energetic.  Her kindness with her friends is matched by her wit in her interactions with others” says Mr. Browning. Ms. Brand, the academic coordinator for Grade 6, adds that Stella is a very dedicated and conscientious student who strives hard to overcome challenges. “She is a fine example of how one can achieve great things through hard work and perseverance” says Ms. Brand.
