Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Rafail

Spotlight On Our Student Rafail
This week, we spotlight our first-grader Rafail who has been at ISR since Kindergarten. “Rafail is a student full of energy and an amazing athlete, in particular a great soccer player, always positive and friendly and ready to take on the challenge of games against older players”, says his soccer coach Mr. Baumann.
His PE teacher Ms. Racheva heartily confirms this and adds that he is also a very intelligent boy who always puts the team first when playing, never gives up when the going gets tough and knows how to accept both winning and losing: not always easy at such young age. “Rafail is very polite, is always ready to help his teachers and classmates. He is a role model and a leader with a smile on his face at all times” says Ms. Racheva.
Also his former Kindergarten teacher fondly remembers him. “Rafail has always had a mighty spirit. As well as being a football genius, he’s always determined to do his best academically and also socially with his friends and classmates. I’m lucky to have had Rafail in my class. Don’t forget your Kindergarten teacher! :)” says Ms. Ramirez.
Additionally, his class teacher says: “Rafail is an incredibly kind and motivated student. He absolutely loves to learn and is always willing to go above and beyond to help others learn as well. He is extremely observant and is always there to lend a helping hand to those who need one. 1C is very lucky to have him!“
We are proud to spotlight Rafail, one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

Julia, Grade 5, hast been at ISR since Grade 3. She is a great soccer player and her former coach Mr. Baumann says she was one of the best female players he ever had. Her teacher Mr. Foy says; “Watching Julia play in my Gaelic Football club I see that she sets about everything in her life with the same passion, tenacity, and bravery.
She is incredibly open minded and undaunted by challenges, as she proved in our Grade 5 English debate as she overcame her nerves to deliver a strong opening statement. She is as committed to friendships and to her studies and as well as improving the lives of those around her.” Also her former English teacher Ms. Lazar says Julia is an outstanding student with a strong character in and out of the classroom. She is always enthusiastic about learning, even when the material got difficult. “It’s been a pleasure teaching her English!” says Ms. Lazar. Julia is also a kind and caring friend, always willing to help out and doing the right thing.
We are proud to spotlight Julia, one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

Spotlight On Our Student Tim
This week, we like to feature the “Big Brother” of ISR, Tim, Grade 11. Tim has been at ISR since Kindergarten and surely knows his way around our school. His teachers, current and former, find it is very special to follow a student for so long and all agree that Tim has certainly matured a lot over the past few years.
“I see him growing into a good example of an IB student. Open, critical, respectful, and getting there with hard work as well” says his teacher Ms. Zic. His German teacher Mr. Kroenke says “Tim’s current academic success in my German class can be traced back to the fact that even when he is confronted with stress and failure, he keeps being self-motivated and goal orientated. He does not shy away from tackling very demanding works of literature in his free time, which shows that he is at the same time open-minded, courageous, and persevering“.
Tim still has his playful spirit and gives back to our school community. The Kindergarten children LOVE having Tim come read to them on a weekly basis and he has recently become a “Big Brother” to a Grade 5 student in Middle School. Both of them really enjoy spending time together each week! As a larger CAS project, Tim has decided to work with “It’s for kids e.V.“ to support local projects for children growing up under less fortunate circumstances. Tim has a big heart, is always very polite, and is a true friend. His everlasting good mood is contagious and he always has a helping hand to spare.
We are proud to spotlight Tim, one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

Spotlight On Our Student Dakshith
Dakshith is a wonderful Grade 1 student who always walks around with a smile on his face. According to Ms. Berg, his teacher, Dakshith stands out to his teacher and classmates because he is resilient in everything he does, always puts others before himself and is always the first to ask others if they are OK when they are looking down or sad.
Dakshith works hard every single day, is friendly to everyone and always makes the classroom look nice by tidying up and picking up trash. “We can always count on Dakshith and are so lucky to have him in 1B!”, declares Ms. Berg.
We are proud to spotlight Dakshith, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Paul

Spotlight On Our Student Paul
Paul, Grade 11, joined ISR in 2017 and Ms. McGee says he was a wonderful student to work with in Grades 9 and 10, as he consistently demonstrated an “Above and Beyond” attitude toward his school work. “I get the sense that his motivation comes not just from the desire to achieve top marks, but a true love for learning and curiosity about the unknown”, says Ms. McGee.
Last year, Paul set the bar high for this year’s Grade 10 students, by taking 6 IGCSE exams and achieving all A’s and A*’s and he is on the same track this year as an IB student with a 94 overall average. He is also leading the Communications Department on the MUN Executive Team at ISR by helping advertise the club to younger students, sharing news about MUN at ISR, and even helping to create an MUN student-run website.
As a part of his CAS-project, Paul dedicated his free time towards the Leo-Service Club Mönchengladbach, the youth organization of “Lion’s Club” which enables young adults to engage in social service activities. In the past months, Paul and his team successfully planned and organized the “Leo Advent Calendar 2019”, a lottery-based advent calendar where the profit goes to a local charity. This year the Leo-Cub calendar sale will support “St. Josefshaus Mönchengladbach”, an institution which provides apartments and activities for disadvantaged citizens.
We are proud to spotlight Paul, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Rania

Spotlight On Our Student Rania
This week we would like to spotlight our first-grader Rania. Her teacher Ms. Stening-Smith says “Rania has a special place in our classroom. She can be described as a kind and caring girl. Rania is often seen helping her friends and fellow students, without any recognition or applause. She cares for each student in our class and has already managed to build a personal relationship which each of them. That’s one of the many reasons why Rania received the Kindness Award at our last Award Ceremony.
A few weeks ago, in Advising, Ms. Morris was teaching students about Empathy and said,: “I believe Rania is a great example of being an empathetic child. She shows her compassion towards not only her friends and students, but also to her teachers”. Her class teacher, Ms. Stening-Smith, says: “Rania is such a delight to have in first grade, when seen around school her smile contagious”.
We are proud to spotlight Rania, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Spotlight On Our Student Anderson
Anderson is one of our American exchange students from The Talentprojekt. As his mother is German, he already spoke some German before he came and has been helping his fellow exchange students to settle in. His coach, Mr. Baumann, says Anderson has a very professional athletic attitude and is a leader on the pitch, not to mention always the first one out there.
His teacher Ms. McGee says Anderson is a very hard working and intelligent student. In fact, ALL of his teachers have recommended him for the end of term recognition! Also, his host parents say Anderson integrated extremely fast and is enriching their whole family. In his spare time, Anderson enjoys cheering on his host brother playing soccer and takes time to watch TV with his younger host sister. Friends, teachers, or family – everyone agrees that Anderson is the kind of person you like to be around!
We are proud to spotlight Anderson, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Anna

Spotlight On Our Student Anna
This week we spotlight Anna from Grade 12, who has been at ISR since her Kindergarten days. Anna is currently preparing for her IB final exams and would like to study mechanical engineering in Aachen after graduating ISR. For Anna and her whole family, sport is an important part of their lives. Anna is passionate about carriage driving. Anna has won several tournaments and this summer she became the Show Champion with her horse Titus at the annual Rheinischen Championship for Carriage Drivers.
In order to be able to practice this sport regularly, Anna often works on her own carriage to make improvements and to prepare it after long tournament days. She chose to study mechanical engineering in order to better understand the construction of her carriage and to optimize it for future competitions. We are extremely impressed by Anna’s determination and are sure that she will bring home many more medals.
Another passion of Anna is photography. So for her CAS project, she decided to create calendars with her own photos and sell them. The proceeds will be donated to the charity organization “Education for all e. V.” which supports the Masaai School in Kenya. Anna traveled with her parents last summer to the Masaai Mara Natural Reserve and got to know the school first hand. Her family enjoyed safari rides, which allowed Anna to collect plenty of photographs for her calendar. Anna has consciously chosen the organization “Education for all e. V.” in order to provide the students with education and teaching materials.
With her sporting successes and her social commitment, she is a wonderful role model for her peers! We are proud to spotlight Anna, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Mohamed is a wonderful grade 2 student. Since joining ISR last year, Mohamed has shown strong character in and out of the classroom. Each day he tries his hardest during lessons, persevering even when the material gets difficult. Always with a smile on his face, Mohamed is incredibly kind to each and every student in the classroom as well as to all of his teachers.
He’s enthusiastic about learning and is a credit to ISR! Or to quote his music teacher Ms. Bucher “He’s another ISR treasure!”
