Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Christina

This week, we spotlight our ninth-grader Christina who joined ISR in Grade 1. Christina is characterized by her friendly, helpful, and also witty character. She is well-liked by her classmates and her outgoing nature makes it easy for her to meet new people. Christina is very ambitious, and this is also reflected in her academics. She has gone above and beyond in the past few months and has made great progress, as her Math teacher, Mr. Hammad, also confirms. “She has been working really well in mathematics over the past couple of months. Although she has been in lockdown like everyone else, she was always on time, actively participating in the class and constantly helping others.”

Christina is not only convincing in Mathematics but across all subjects. Her Science teacher Ms. Vig, says that she has many wonderful qualities including being kind, funny and friendly: “the best thing about Christina is she will accept, reflect and act on all the feedback I give her, which is why teaching her is such a pleasure! You’ve got this Christina!”

Supervisor, Mr. Mo, who has known Christina for many years, concludes, “Christinchen, as I call her, is the youngest of her siblings, and she is very intelligent.  Christinchen already knows exactly what she wants to achieve, and she is an asset to the ISR community. I am always there when she wants to talk, and it fills me with pride that she puts her trust in me. I am very proud of her personal development.”

This week, we spotlight our third-grader Amina, who joined ISR in first grade. Amina is an engaged, driven, and kind student. She is constantly pushing herself to achieve high standards and works hard in order to do so in her academic life. She is a kind-hearted student with such a polite manner that all students in the class can rely on her to be a good person to work with and a good friend. Not only that, but she is funny, creative, and smart as well as a “a true delight to teach!” in the words of Ms. Ewing, her teacher.

She is always smiling and a helpful student who supports her friends. Another of her teachers, Ms. Duenas, adds “She is a lovely girl! If you have the opportunity to get her as your student, consider yourself lucky. She is hardworking, motivated, thoughtful, caring, and so much more. She has a wonderful imagination that she uses in her writing. I love hearing her stories! Amina, I hope you continue to love writing more and more every day!”

This week, we spotlight our talented fourth Grade singer Isabella who joined ISR in Kindergarten. Isabella has been a very welcome member of the ISR family ever since and proves again every day what a wonderful personality she has. She stands out for her willingness to help and her empathy. She is always very helpful to her fellow students and tries to support them wherever possible. Isabella is sunshine and convinced with her positive nature. One of her hobbies is singing and her teacher, Ms. Bucher, also confirms her talent in this.

In academics, Isabella is always very eager and gives her best. She has a great interest in learning new things and is very focused. It is important to Isabella that those around her feel comfortable, and so she also supports new students in her grade level to help them settle in. Her grade coordinator Ms. Ghica confirms this and adds in conclusion Her academic coordinator Ms. Ghica adds” She is not only an extremely bright student, but she is funny and very helpful. She has been over years an Ambassador to different new students. She supported them, and they have been friends ever since. Furthermore, she is a bright star in the constellation of amazing Grade 4 stars!”

This week, we spotlight our Fifth-Grader Ruby, who joined ISR this academic school year. Ruby has adapted very well into her school life at ISR. She is a kind and thoughtful student who is well-liked by her teachers. She has not only been able to convince quickly in the academic field, but also through her character. Her classmates quickly noticed that Ruby is a helpful friend who is easy to talk to and has taken her to their hearts. Ruby works hard and is an outstanding student. She has already advanced very well in English and was recently promoted to the next level as a result of her commitment and great work ethic, “Ruby is a great role model, and she should be very proud of her efforts!” says Ms. Brand (Academic Coordinator Grades 5 – 6).

Her German Teacher Ms. Scholz says about her, “Ruby is an outstanding student who is passionate about every class. She is a very popular member of the class because of her friendly, humorous nature and helpfulness. Ruby not only shows impressive academic achievements but inspires everyone with her joy in learning. She is a true role model, and we are happy to have her in our class.”

Her Homeroom teacher, Ms. Schultze, adds “Ruby is an excellent student and friend. She works hard, asks questions, and always tries her best. We are so proud to have her be a part of our classroom community!”

This week, we spotlight our Kindergarten student Rosie who joined ISR in 2018. Due to her communicative and open nature, Rosie had no problems making friends in her Kindergarten group.

Ever since she started with ISR Kindergarten, she has been happy and helpful, amazingly kind, and a great friend to everyone. She gives her best at all times, in both academic and creative subjects. Rosie is very conscientious and stands out for her strong personality. Her Kindergarten teacher Ms. Newham finally adds, “It is not surprising that she has a lot of friends and playmates. We can’t wait to see what new goals she will reach!  Thank you, Rosie, for being a special part of our KG Family! Rosie is a wonderful student!”

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Lori

This week, we spotlight our Kindergarten Student Lori, who joined ISR in 2019. Lori not only knows her way around our Kindergarten in Neuss excellently but also our Kindergarten in Düsseldorf. In August 2020, she joined the Niederkassel Kindergarten in KG1. From the beginning, Lori was a keen member of the group and an active participant. She makes friends so easily because she is such a kind and friendly child. She can often be found drawing pictures and she enjoys cutting and sticking immensely. When she is not cutting and sticking, Lori likes to play outside with her friends, especially in the snow!

Although Lori was very confident from the beginning speaking her mother tongue, Mandarin, she has developed her language skills further in English. She is now able to communicate in English confidently and is extremely helpful to those children who are less confident in the language. Every day, she enters Kindergarten with a big smile on her face, greeting her friends and educators cordially. She even shouts, “Boo! Good morning!” to make them laugh sometimes.

Lori has been learning letter sounds and is gaining confidence in being able to read three-letter words. She has also been working on reading and writing numbers to 20. Lori is happy to show that she can count confidently to 20 and beyond. Her teacher, Ms. Perez, adds “Lori is a well-loved member of the class and is a great role model for all children in the group. We are so proud of you Lori!“.

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Jasmin

This week, we spotlight our ninth-grader Jasmin, who joined ISR in grade 7. She is a hardworking, ambitious, and intelligent young woman who is currently researching future studies in the areas of Psychology, Politics, Law, and Economics. In addition to her academic studies, she is also the Deputy Head of the Activities Department in the Student Life Organization. This year she has directed her team of prefects to help the community celebrate Halloween, organize a Christmas Market for students, and create fun challenges that we can participate in while learning from home.

Jasmin has a tremendous work ethic and constantly strives to enrich her knowledge. Not only that, but she participates in all discussions and is self-driven but works equally well within a group. She is now reading challenging articles from The Guardian not only to improve her English skills but to be more aware of what is going in the world around her. Jasmin shows a great sense of responsibility and runs a successful booster session on Mondays to support other students. She takes her role there very seriously and likes to support her classmates.  Her teacher, Mr. McGee, says about her ”Her natural inquisitiveness in history class shows a genuine interest in the subject and is helpful to her peers. She always shows her interest through questions about the content and structure of the course. Despite her proficiency in the subject, which she has already consistently shown, she is always challenging herself to improve and to know more about the subject and how to approach the challenging IGCSE question style. The course asks a lot of students, and she is meeting or exceeding all expectations.”

Jasmin is incredibly dedicated and her teachers are absolutely convinced by her. Jasmin’s Spanish teacher, Ms. Hautz, confirms this, and finally adds “She always enriches the lesson with questions that go beyond the surface, as she is really interested and learning Spanish. Well done!”

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Zarand

This week, we spotlight our committed Seven-Grader Zarand who joined ISR in Grade 5. Zarand feels incredibly comfortable at ISR and embodies ISR’s motto, “It’s Cool to be Good.” He gets along very well with his classmates and is an open-minded young man. He is extremely hard working in class, his expectations of himself are high, and he lives up to them. “He is the type of student teachers pray for!” says his teacher Mr. Lillywhite.

In addition to his schooling at ISR, Zarand also does distance learning at a Hungarian school. For him, education is very important and also a connection to his origins. Despite two different school systems and a large amount of work, Zarand masters his academic achievements to a high level. Only recently, the education law in Hungary changed, so that instead of 6 exams in major subjects, he now has to take online 13 mid-year exams! Zarand, outstandingly, scored 100% in 12 exams and 84% in the 13th exam and that without neglecting his academic performance at ISR!

His teachers praise him and are thrilled with his dedication. Zarand has made great academic progress in a very short time. His teacher, Ms. Horvath, says about him, “Not very often you can meet a student who constantly works with such an interest, diligence and power. He never misses a class or homework, he participates in each lesson with passion and shows his well-founded knowledge every time – and this in a very calm without being loud or focused only on himself. He is definitely one of my best students ever. He is an enrichment not only for my class but also for our ISR school. If I could, I would give him the award of the year – what a great achievement!”

This week, we spotlight our Fifth-Grader Gian, who joined ISR in Kindergarten. Gian is a very polite student who is always there for his classmates. He is characterized by his helpful and friendly nature. In the academic area he shows excellent performance and is also highly praised by his Academic Coordinator, Ms. Brand. “Gian is an exceptional student who is always eager to help. A great example of this is during the virtual lessons: Gian has been taking the class attendance using Excel and sending it to his teachers! He is a whizz when it comes to using technology and Gian is happy to share his knowledge with others. It is such a pleasure to teach Gian”.

Also his Math teacher, Mr. Hammad, describes him as a very organized, passionate and attentive student, who is willing to help his classmates. “Gian is one of the best students in the class, not only academically but in every other aspect that a student can be.” Besides his academic success, Gian also shows great interest in the musical field and shows great talent there as well. He is a hardworking musician and very well-organized, as well as great at creative problem-solving. His Music teachers, Ms. Bucher, finally adds “he is very helpful to fellow students and to me, and hungry for knowledge and challenges. He shows terrific initiative and is talented”.

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Riko

This week, we spotlight our dedicated Eleven-Grader Riko, who joined ISR in Grade 10 last year. Riko is an incredibly focused and determined student, who implements every piece of feedback in order to improve her work. She enthusiastically contributes to class discussions and has been able to settle in the ISR community really quickly.

In addition, Riko is actively involved in school life and engaged in several CAS projects. Social commitment is very important to Riko, and so she is not only part of the Big Sister/Big Brother project, where she supports Japanese students in Middle School, but is also part of the “Music Boxes” project. This involves refurbishing old music boxes and donating them to the residents of the St. Augustine Dementia Center. Music is an important component and especially for dementia patients, as repeated listening helps with recognition. Her CAS teacher, Mr. Urban, is thrilled with Riko’s dedication and personality, “Riko’s friendly and open character is a great asset to my homeroom. Every morning she greets me and her classmates with a smile that is contagious. It is an absolute pleasure to work with her.”

Riko is very determined in academics, which her biology teacher, Ms. Knight, attests to,  “Riko is a hardworking, motivated, and dedicated student in Biology with a great passion for the environment and sustainability issues. She is trialing an interesting IA topic regarding the use of microplastics in commercial toothpaste brands!” Among her interests are sports and music. Riko likes being active and does a lot of sports with her friends. She also shows great musical talent with instruments including piano and clarinet.
