Looking back: Our ISR Sports Camp 2021
Monday, 28 June 2021
Another exciting camp week came to an end at ISR on Friday last week. This year, our ISR Sports Camp had over 100 students registered to enjoy an eventful sports week!
The participants were divided into age-appropriate groups and were able to enjoy tailor-made sports programs that suit their age and agility. In addition to the various sports activities both on the ISR campus as well as the ISR outdoor sports facility, students visited the tennis facility across the street and a went on a number of local excursions. A few highlights included visits from the hip-hop instructor, a capoeira coach for our kindergarten children, Australian football, trampoline jumping, kayaking and much more.
Thanks to the ingenuity of the entire ISR Sports Team, the students participated in sports that helped foster sportsmanship and creativity, thus making this week one for them to cherish. The students demonstrated outstanding team spirit and athletic talent during our camp week.
We would like to thank our entire ISR team, especially the sports department, without whom, this year’s sports camp would not have been possible. We eagerly anticipate next year’s sports camp!
Kindergarten Graduation
Kindergarten Graduation
Tuesday, 15 June 2021
Last week, we celebrated the Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony of our KG2 groups, who successfully ended their Kindergarten years. We are happy to welcome most of them back at our first grade ceremony for the upcoming school year 2021-2022. All Kindergarten students received their graduation certificates personally from their Early Years Educators, who could not have been prouder. In the process, their parents had the opportunity to watch the moving ceremony virtually. For the parents as well as for our entire Kindergarten team it was a particularly touching moment.
Dear former KG2 students
We are grateful to have shared this exciting time with you and wish you all the best for your next exciting journey – starting school in first grade.
The world is open to you and we look forward to seeing how you develop true to our motto “We Enable Great Minds and Strong Characters”!
Class of 2021 – ISR Graduation Ceremony
Class of 2021 – ISR Graduation Ceremony
Friday, 11 June 2021

On Friday 11 June 2021, we proudly celebrated the achievements of another graduating class of ISR. The ISR Graduation Ceremony took place in the spacious grounds of Haus Meer City Park with our graduates, their families and invited ISR guests.
After the ceremonial opening speeches by Ms. Lyons, Mr. Soliman and Mr. Cete, a speech by the Mayor of Düsseldorf, Dr. Stephan Keller, followed, who particularly emphasised the long-standing friendship of ISR with the city of Düsseldorf. Following the speech, the Consul General of Turkey in Düsseldorf, Ms. Aysegül Gökçen Karaarslan, gave some solemn words to our graduating class and spoke about her positive experience with ISR as the mother of an ISR graduate.
Afterwards, our two graduates Paul and Darya spoke of the eventful school years of this year’s graduating class and talked about numerous fond memories of the past years. In particular, the last two IB years of our graduating class were marked by the pandemic, however our students made the best of it at all times and mastered the challenges with flying colours. Finally, our ISR students as well as teachers performed “An Ode to Joy” – our ISR school song.
Our 49 graduates, who come from 16 different nations, were given a ceremonial farewell with the awarding of the ISR High School Diploma, which now opens the doors to prestigious universities worldwide.
We are extremely grateful and proud to have accompanied this year’s graduating class on their journey and to have completed an important milestone in their lives together with them. Each of our graduates is further proof of our motto: “We enable great minds and strong characters” and we are sure that the future holds only the best for our students.
We would also like to thank all the parents, teachers and staff who have accompanied this year’s graduating class on their journey and played a big part in their success.
Dear Students,
You have given your best at all times and can be proud to hold your ISR High School Diploma in your hands. Stay in touch and keep fond memories of this unforgettable period of your lives. Each of you has left your mark on ISR and we are proud to be a part of your story. Our doors are always open for you and your families.
Go out and shape the world, ISR Graduates!

ISR Mock Trial
ISR Mock Trial
Thursday, 29 April 2021
This week on Tuesday, our students Maria, Alex, and Jonathan from Grade 11 organized a mock trial for their Grade 11 peers.
A mock trial is a simulation of a lower-court criminal trial, where each student gets the chance to delve into a different role and experience what it is like to work in a courtroom. The roles range from attorneys, judges, and clerks to photographers and witnesses, so everyone can experience a unique role. Not only do students practice their ability to formulate arguments and hone their public speaking skills, but they also empathize by putting themselves into the position of others.
In this trial, a police officer, was accused of attempted murder of a high school student. Two teams of attorneys were responsible for defending or prosecuting the convicted and their cases were judged by a jury that ultimately decided he was guilty. Furthermore, to add to the authenticity of the trial, a clerk oversaw any exhibits provided by the attorneys as well as swearing all participants in. The bailiff on the other hand made sure everyone in the courtroom was well-behaved.
As this event was a major success and all the students enjoyed it, Maria plans on planning another trial on an even larger scale for all our upper school students. Another great chance to engage with others as well as to improve important communication skills!
ISR students won the TV show "Luke - die Schule und ich"
ISR students won the TV show “Luke – die Schule und ich”
Friday, 23 April 2021
Today, the TV show “Luke – die Schule und ich – Vips gegen Kids” was shown on TV! In this season finale, eight ISR students and four students from the Leipzig International School successfully competed in different knowledge games against actress Sophia Tomalla, actor Atze Schröder, entertainer Riccardo Simonetti and singer Alvaro Soler.
To support our students and cheer them on, we offered our community the chance to watch the show with us virtually! At our virtual ISR Movie Night, everyone was super excited to support our primary and middle school students during the many thrilling scenes. In the end, the students prevailed and won together against the celebrities! We are very proud of our students who not only represented ISR in the best possible way but also showed courage by participating in this television show.
We wish to thank the whole Brainpool team, who supported our students in every possible way and made them feel comfortable in the studio, as well as their parents for the outstanding support and preparations that went along with the participation.
Of course – last but not least – we thank our successful and committed students Hannan, Pia, Lasse, Benjamin, Gioya, Kevin, Jolina, and Mathias for their amazing performance and courage as well as Leo, Cornelius, and Jacob, who actively supported our Team ISR and showed great team spirit.
IT’S COOL TO BE GOOD!

Ask young girls what they would like to become when they grow up, and their answers are – fortunately – very diverse! Whether they want to become policewomen, cooks, ballerinas, mothers, or vets – today’s world has taken a great step forward in encouraging girls to be anything they want to be in life!
At ISR, we will always support them in achieving their dreams!
Virtual Jura Career Talk with Dr. Schröder-Frerkes
Jura Career Talk with Dr. Schröder-Frerkes
Tuesday, 23 March 2021
Today, we had the great honor of introducing our students to Dr. Schröder-Frerkes, a distinguished lawyer and partner at Bird & Bird, an international operating law firm. Within the framework of a virtual discussion, our middle and upper school students had the opportunity to ask specific questions relating to law, Dr. Schröder-Frerkes’ professional profile as well as his experience in practicing law. During that discussion, our students gained insight into the complex everyday life of a lawyer in a lively Q&A round.
Dr. Schröder-Frerkes has more than 25 years of professional experience as a corporate and M&A lawyer and offers his domestic and foreign clients extensive expertise in the areas of M&A, private equity and venture capital transactions, MBOs, group valuations, restructurings, and re-organizations as well as joint ventures. In the course of his career, he has achieved numerous notable successes and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by the former German Federal President, Mr. Horst Köhler, for his commitment to the development of German-American relations. Since 2008, Dr. Schröder-Frerkes has also served as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce (NRW) and on various advisory boards, including ISR.
We are pleased to be able to offer our students the opportunity to have extensive interactions with highly qualified and inspiring individuals. These opportunities have far-reaching benefits to our students as they can learn from their experiences and successes and focus on their future plans.
We would like to thank Dr. Schröder-Frerkes for taking the time to show our students exclusive insights into the work of a lawyer. Interactive lectures like these create considerable added value for our students at both schools!
Happy Valentine´s Day!
Happy Valentine´s Day from ISR!
Sunday, 14 February 2021
Dear ISR Family,
It’s been almost a year now since the pandemic started affecting Germany, and since then, much of our familiar way of living has been altered. Our regular “in-person” interactions, such as our events, our conferences, and one-on-one meetings with you have all been missing during the last year. Despite these circumstances, our ISR Community is as strong as ever and we can look confidently into the future, knowing that if anything, the pandemic has drawn us much closer as a community.
Our love for education is the appropriate theme for today because excellent education enriches the lives of people around the world. For 18 years, this has been our mission – to provide the best education for our students.
Happy Valentine´s Day!
Valentine's Day Cards
Our Primary Team has come up with a lovely project for Valentine´s Day to spread a little happiness to children all over the world.
Our students put a lot of effort into designing individual virtual cards to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day. With these lovingly designed cards, they want to put a smile on the faces of everyone who sees them.
We thank our Primary Team for organizing this creative project and of course our students for their time and effort. The cards turned out wonderfully!

International Day of Education
International Day of Education
Sunday, 24 January 2021
Is there a deeper purpose to education, beyond simply a degree or a grade?
Not only students seek to answer this century-old question – also educators, school staff, and parents consider the purpose of their efforts. Given that today is “International Day of Education”, we posed this question to members of the ISR staff. Over the past 20 years, our team at ISR continues to be dedicated to providing the best possible education, to challenge and encourage our students, and to pave the way for a successful and happy future. For each of us, education means something different – but we all agree on one thing: education is the most important asset we have, it is our drive, and our passion at ISR.
As Ms. McGee says: “A good school will give students knowledge, a great school will make students lifelong learners”
And this is the education that we strive for at ISR.
Our ISR Community: Strong cohesion despite physical distance
Our ISR Community: Strong cohesion despite physical distance
Tuesday, 12 January 2021
At ISR, we are especially proud of the strong parent community that helps shape and enrich our school life. During these times, it is especially important to maintain a constant exchange with our ISR Parent Network! For this reason, all Parent Network meetings with our ISR Management Team take place virtually. This allows families to interact with school leadership, exchange ideas, and for the ISR community to come together virtually. We thank all Class Reps for their participation and are grateful for the positive meeting yesterday.
Face-to-face contact with students is also especially important during this time. In addition to our virtual meetings as well as virtual classes at ISR, our committed Academic Coordinators offer a Zoom Session each day where parents or students can dial in to discuss questions, exchange thoughts, make appointments with class teachers, or simply to meet again virtually after the long time.
All this to say – we miss our parents and students, but we are happy and thankful to be able to keep up the communication virtually!
