ISR Students for Charity - Amazing CAS Project
ISR Students for Charity – Amazing CAS Project
Thursday, 11 November 2021

As part of his CAS project, our G12 IB student Daniel painted several artworks which he sold to our ISR community. Daniel proceeded to donate the proceeds of the sale to charity. To raise awareness for this project, Daniel used various ISR events to exhibit his paintings, as well as the online ISR Merchandise Shop. Interested buyers had the option to choose whether the proceeds would go to the Children and Youth Hospice in Düsseldorf or to the German Red Cross for flood victims.
Last Thursday, the handover of the proceeds took place at the Kinder- und Jugendhospiz Regenbogenland in Düsseldorf. Daniel, together with ISR CAS Coordinator – Mr. Urban, handed over a check for 1770 Euros (!) to the manager of the Regenbogenland, Ms. Eschweiler. In addition to the incredible donation, Daniel donated four of his paintings to the children’s and youth hospice. The Kinder- und Jugendhospiz Regenbogenland cares for numerous of families with children who have a shortened life expectancy and actively supports these families in their everyday lives and above all tries to relieve them of subsequent stress. Families can visit the Regenbogenland for stays several times a year and use it as a retreat or vacation stay.
“Especially for siblings of ill children, we offer a special holiday and care program. It enables them to share experiences with other siblings and to have a good time together. There are special days where it’s all about their wishes. Oftentimes the siblings do not receive the attention they need, because families pay more attention to the sick children,” said the manager Ms. Eschweiler.
“It is very important to us that we give the children and their families the opportunity to have a nice and relaxing time with us and to make the remaining time together as fulfilling and positive as possible. Especially for our guests who require more support, we have many activities on offer in which they can easily participate. These include regular music therapy, creative activities, but also monthly visits from two clowns for clown therapy, the clown really makes our visitors laugh. Among many other activities, another highlight for our guests is dog therapy. The children enjoy the time with animals so much, and we especially notice that the visit not only does good for their mental state, but often physical improvements show up as well. We as a support association finance our unique Regenbogenland from donations and do not receive any government subsidies, so we can use Daniel’s generous donation all the more. Every cent contributes towards our mission to enable moments of happiness and closeness for our families. We will use it to fund further activities for the children and are very grateful that such a generous young man thought of us.”
We as an educational institution are very proud of Daniel’s decision to support Regenbogenland. Well done Daniel!

We had the great honor of welcoming Consul General Iwama, the Consul General of Japan in Düsseldorf, as well as Vice Consul Ito at ISR today.
For many years, ISR has had a wonderful partnership with the Japanese Consulate General in Düsseldorf and we are proud to have an active and large Japanese Community at our locations in Neuss and Düsseldorf.
Consul General Iwama as well as Vice Consul Ito were welcomed by our Management Team as well as our kindergarten children, who created a poster for our guests of honor in advance and proudly presented it to them. Afterwards, the visitors were guided around the campus by two senior students, Hayato and Ema, and got to know all the Academic Coordinators during their tour. In addition, they were introduced to our internal University and Career Counselling Team. In recent years, renowned Japanese universities were among the top study place offers, for which reason getting to know our UCC team was of great interest for Consul General Iwama and Vice Consul Ito.
After the informative tour, Eileen Lyons – ISR School Director, Peter Soliman – ISR Proprietor, as well as Emil Cete – ISR Deputy Director, met with the visitors to discuss future projects and cooperation opportunities.
With the visit of the Consul General as well as the Vice Consul, ISR continues a long-standing tradition and friendship and we sincerely thank our guests of honor, Consul General Iwama and Vice Consul Ito, for their constructive visit and their time.

Today, we had the great honor to welcome the new principal of the Japanese International School Düsseldorf (JISD).
Ms. Teramura was accompanied by Mr. Sasano, the deputy director of JISD.
For many years, ISR has enjoyed an active and growing Japanese Community as well as a trusted partnership with JISD. Today’s visit strengthens a friendship that has existed between the two schools for many years.
As our new ISR Kindergarten in Düsseldorf is in the immediate neighborhood of JISD, the two institutions have established a friendly partnership from which both sides benefit. The successful visit of JISD to ISR Neuss will be followed by a visit to our Kindergarten in Düsseldorf Niederkassel.
It was a great pleasure for us to welcome Ms. Teramura and Mr. Sasano today, and we wish the JISD community a great start to their new school year.

ZDF Interview with Mr. Soliman, Ms. Vrem and Ms. McGee
Thursday, 7 January 2021
Today, ZDF visited us to interview three of our American staff members about yesterday’s riots in Washington D.C.
ZDF is the main program of the broadcasting company Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen and the second public national television program in Germany.
The interviewees included our Executive Director Peter Soliman, our Head of Kindergarten Alex Vrem, and our Upper School Director Samatha McGee. “It’s a shame, a sad day for the U.S.,” Peter Soliman said of the events in Washington. “It is very right that the Senate and Congress came back to the Capitol to finish their work. That was highly professional.”
Dr. Alexander Schröder-Frerkes, a member of ISR’s Advisory Board and Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in NRW, was also interviewed in this context. As a representative of American interests in Germany, Dr. Schröder-Frerkes is an indispensable advisor at our international school. In 2010, he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to the development of German-American relations. The interview was broadcast this afternoon on the Mittagsmagazin.
Virtual Career Talk by Henkel board member Jan-Dirk Auris
Virtual Career Talk by Henkel board member Jan-Dirk Auris
Monday, 21 October 2020
Following on from a series of lectures held by the Henkel Group in recent years, which has been particularly enriching for our students, we had the great honor today to welcome Mr. Jan-Dirk Auris, a member of the Management Board of Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, virtually today.
Mr. Auris took the time to give an inspiring career talk to selected ISR students. He shared personal experiences as well as valuable tips and recommendations with the students, who had to apply for this exclusive meeting in advance.
After Mr. Auri’s lecture, four Henkel employees reported on their career paths and everyday work and thus gave the students an exclusive look behind the scenes of the corporation. The event was rounded off with a Q&A session, where the students had the unique opportunity to ask Mr. Auris and his team open questions about their career paths and the opportunities for entry and promotion at Henkel.
Lectures and meetings like these are held regularly at ISR to introduce our students to the best possible career paths as well as to corporations and companies. We are therefore all the more pleased that this event was able to take place despite the more stringent corona measures and that the students were thus able to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
We would like to thank Mr. Jan-Dirk Auris and his dedicated team colleagues for their time and expertise!

Grade 10 Business and Economics students at the Toyota Headquater
Thursday, 05 December 2019
On December 3rd, Grade 10 Business and Economics students had the opportunity to visit Toyota Headquarters in Cologne and had the honour to be welcomed in person by Alain Uyttenhoven (President) and Thomas Schalberger (GM PR).
In the beginning, our students were given a presentation about Toyota´s growth throughout history and the company’s plans for the future. At the same time, the speakers talked about career opportunities in the company and showed our students, for example, what entry-level opportunities await them after graduating from ISR.
After this, students were given a tour through Toyota Collection Hall, with 70 exhibits, which is one of the largest collections outside Japan and represents a journey through the history of the company. Among the highlights is the sports car icon Toyota 2000 GT, of which only 351 units were produced in the 1960s. This turned out to be an informative and enjoyable visit, that left students much more informed about the car industry in Germany and the world. We would like to thank Mr. Uyttenhoven and Mr. Schalberger for this great day!
