This week, we spotlight our Grade 10 student Nicolas, who joined ISR in grade 2. In the academic field, Nicolas is performing excellently and he is an A* IGCSE student.  Nicolas is an active learner with a positive attitude and an outstanding work ethic that has enabled him to achieve academic excellence.  After he completes the IB Diploma Programme, he is interested in studying IT or Engineering and is working hard to make his dream of attending a top university in Switzerland or the UK a reality. His French teacher, Ms. Sanjila, adds, “Nico is one of the best students I have ever had, in terms of academics as well as a classmate. He is motivated in French and a hard worker!”. Nicolas is incredibly polite and always helpful. Mr. Mo, a Supervisor at ISR, remembers him clearly. “I’ve known Nicolas since the beginning and he has continued to develop in an incredibly positive way. Nicolas is incredibly polite and always helpful. He is well respected by his classmates and is a great asset to the school community.”

We are very proud to spotlight Nicolas one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

SLOⓇ Activity - Creative Minds

SLOⓇ Activity – Creative Minds

Wednesday, 23 December 2020

Creative Minds is an SLOⓇ activity teaching children through hands-on activities to expand their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills using STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) and Design Thinking Methodologies. Creative Minds allows children from KG through Grade 10 to understand issues and find solutions whilst allowing the students to grow outside of the daily school curriculum.

Our Creative Minds students have been very busy making gifts for others this holiday season.

Last year, our Inspiring Girls, a class of 5th and 6th Grade girls learning about women who excelled in their field of work, visited the St. Augustinus Memory Zentrum with homemade gifts and a show featuring their many musical talents. Due to COVID-19, we could not visit the center this year. Instead, our girls took warm socks and creatively packaged them up as cupcakes for the residents. The socks were delivered on Tuesday, December 15th to the Memory Zentrum in Neuss for the residents to enjoy!

On Saturday, December 12th, Creative Minds held it’s first online zoom session! Students joined the session to make their parents a surprise holiday present! The children enjoyed the session and look forward to surprising their parents this week.

On Sunday, December 13th, more students joined a 2nd zoom session, this time making a special holiday gift for their teachers! The students enjoyed this fun project and were very excited to bring their gifts to their teachers the next day!

Many thanks to Creative Minds Leader and ISR Mom, Susie Seum!

Virtual ISR Alumni Reception

ISR virtual Alumni Reception

Friday, 18 December 2020

Yesterday, for the first time in ISR’s history, our ISR Alumni Reception took place virtually!

Many ISR alumni joined us from different countries around the world to share special experiences, talk about their career choices and to look back on their time at ISR. Another fascinating feature of the meeting was that one of our students from the second IB year of ISR was part of the group and enriched the event with his exciting stories.

We would like to thank our UCC team as well as our Deputy Director, Mr. Cete, for this invaluable event and we are happy that despite the circumstances we could keep up with the tradition of our ISR Alumni Reception before the Winter Break!

We wish you all a reflective Christmas season and look forward to seeing you again next year!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Natsumi

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Natsumi

Friday, 18 December 2020

This week, we spotlight our athletic fourth-grader Natsumi, who joined ISR last year. Natsumi is a very ambitious student, who is especially characterized by her lovely character. Her classmates especially appreciate her cheerful nature and her willingness to help. Natsumi has great empathy and always has an open ear for her friends and classmates. In academics, she demonstrates every day her excellent work ethic, as her English teacher, Mr Cloke, confirms.

“Natsumi gives her all in every lesson! Her warm, friendly and helpful manner is a joy and I am very proud to have her in my class. Well done Natsumi!”. Natsumi’s great passion is sports and she is extremely talented. Her sports teacher, Mr Baumann, quickly recognized her potential in athletics and shared his knowledge with the Athletics Coordinator at ISR, Ms Schierl. “My first contact with Natsumi was after Mr Baumann told me about a very talented girl in his Grade 4 PE class that would stand out due to her great performance in athletics. When we encouraged her to join the SLOⓇ athletics activity to work on her talent, she was eager to join. Since then, she shows up every week with a lot of motivation and a great attitude. Natsumi´s running technique looks already very professional – she is really very talented. It´s a pleasure to have her in the group and I´m excited to see how Natsumi will develop further.”

In addition to her ambition in sports, Natsumi shows it across subjects. She is always very attentive and diligent, as well as in her music lessons. Her music teacher, Mrs Bucher, describes Natsumi as a very responsible student who always tries to set a good example for her class.

We are very proud to spotlight Natsumi one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

ISR Kindergarten Düsseldorf: Winter Concert & Santa Visit

Tuesday, 15 December 2020

As we are so close to the vacations, our ISR Kindergarten children in Düsseldorf spent an especially exciting day full of events and wonderful surprises!

In the morning, the first ISR Winter Concerts took place, in which the children proudly presented their parents with joyful Christmas songs that they had rehearsed together over the past weeks. Of course, the parents could not be there live – so the families joined the concert virtually! The rooms were filled with merry winter songs, happy children and an exceptional proud ISR Kindergarten Team!

After these concerts, there was a very special surprise for the children: Santa came to visit, to reward the children for the successful concerts, and to bring in the end of the year in a festive way. This year, Santa had come up with a very special surprise for the children: they all received a special toothbrush container in the shape of rubber ducks and frogs!

We thank everyone involved for this wonderful day, look forward to the last days in Kindergarten before the vacations and are already excited about what the new year has in store for our ISR Kindergarten in Düsseldorf!

Radin found it very easy to settle into the ISR community and his Academic Coordinator, Ms. Brand, confirmed this by saying “Radin only joined ISR this year, but he is a well-established member of the ISR Community. Radin brings a great deal of enthusiasm, energy and positivity to Grade 6. He is a good friend to his peers and well-liked by his teachers.”

Radin is characterized above all by his friendly nature and is extremely helpful. He supports his classmates and takes on the role of a mentor. It is especially important to him to give his classmates a good feeling. In his young years, he already shows great leadership qualities and also takes on various tasks in the class. In doing so, he is very disciplined and responsible.

His teacher Ms. Horvath adds “He is a wonderful person, who does everything with lots of passion, energy and interest! Not forgetting his great talent in languages. He is empathetic, friendly, hardworking and helpful at any given time.”

ISR Model United Nations

ISR Model United Nations

Friday, 4 December 2020

We are happy to announce that our 5th ISR Model United Nations simulation ran successfully last Thursday to Friday. MUN on the Rhine is a simulated United Nations conference that is planned, set-up, and hosted by students at ISR. This year’s theme was “Remembering the Past and Preparing for the Future: The Effects of Universal Militarization”. Within this theme we hosted have three separate committees discussing past, present, and future issues. The objective of this year’s conference is to remind ourselves of the detrimental effects militarization has had in the past and work together internationally to prevent more catastrophes from happening in the future.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the team of students didn’t only manage to host a conference, but also to broaden the conferences’ portfolio by taking on new challenges, as this was our first time to have a Historical Committee, the Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space, and the Security Council. The conference required students to research their topic and prepare for in-committee discussions with their peers about matters of political or historical interest. The two-day conference was filled with fruitful discussions, innovative solutions, and outstanding resolutions.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students, who have put a lot of time and passion into the preparations and conferences. Thank you for your hard work! It´s cool to be good!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Arush

Friday, 4 December 2020

This week, we spotlight our KG2 student Arush, who joined ISR in 2018. Arush quickly made his mark in ISR and his communicative disposition helped him make friends quickly. He is very much liked by his classmates, and they appreciate his friendly and cheerful nature. Arush always stands by his friends and helps them in every situation. He is incredibly thoughtful and helpful to everyone.

His KG teacher, Ms. Cooper, says this about him “He is always on hand to help out in the classroom without being asked. Arush loves to talk to everybody he meets, and he always makes us smile. I love having Arush in my class and I would love to have the spotlight shone on him.”

His German teacher, Ms. Schneider, finally adds “Arush has been my student for over 2 years now, and he amazes me every day. His German skills have improved enormously. The thoughtful way of Arush seeing where he could be of any help either within the classroom or with his peers makes me very happy. I trust that he will turn into an even more sensible and responsible adult and leader. I love having Arush in my class!”

We are excited to see how Arush will develop at ISR and we are sure that he will never lose his smile and humour!

We are very proud to spotlight Arush one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

ISR Twelfth Graders Support Environmental Awareness

ISR Twelfth Graders Support Environmental Awareness

Thursday, 3 December 2020

Four of our dedicated students went out on the streets  to clean the city from garbage and pollution again. Our students Penelope, Kazuki, Gordon and Mona met last Saturday at Düsseldorf Central Station to carefully collect and dispose of the garbage lying on the ground.

For several months some of our Grade 12 IB students have been involved in a CAS project with the initiative ” Wir machen Deutschland sauber “, which was initiated by the Japanese community of Düsseldorf. The goal is to promote environmental awareness and at the same time to present arriving guests and residents to the City of Düsseldorf with an welcoming clean environment at the train station. It was another successful day and we are incredibly proud of the commitment of our students, who among other things, are wonderful role models who are keen to demonstrate the importance of environmental awareness.
