First Grade Ceremony At ISR

First Grade Ceremony At ISR

On 19th August 2020, our First Graders celebrated a very special event: their first day of school in Grade 1 at ISR!

In order to honour this special day, we invited close friends and families of our students to enjoy a morning of celebration in a safe, beautifully decorated open-air ceremony which took place on our school campus.
After the welcome speeches by the School Director, Ms. Lyons, and Mr. Soliman, the School Proprietor, the Academic Head for Primary School, Ms. Morris, invited third-grader, Hannan, to the stage to perform the ISR school song for those in attendance.
Following the performance, all first graders were invited to come on stage to receive their school cones, pick up their school bags and meet the other students in their new classes. The enthusiasm and excitement was palpable and students’ beaming faces could hardly be overlooked!

We are proud that our strong ISR community is continuing to grow and that we’ve enriched it with so many more nationalities.

We are very pleased that the first day of school was a complete success for our first graders and we welcome all our new students to ISR – where it’s cool to be good!

Looking Back: Summer Art Camp 2019

Looking Back: Summer Art Camp 2019

Tuesday, 02 July 2019

Colourful brushes, painted canvases and radiant children: last week saw the start of the school holidays with a creative Summer Art Camp week. The program, led by Bettina Schulenberg, was fully booked a few weeks after it was announced. This is of course, due to the stellar reputation Ms. Schulenberg has as an amazing art teacher.

The program begun every morning with the classic “artist’s” breakfast, where the students and Ms. Schulenberg all sat together, exchanged ideas, discussed events of the previous day and thereafter, began their creative process. Ms. Schulenberg took great care to make the camp as varied and interesting as possible for all the participants. Both beginners and advanced students tried out different painting techniques on canvas, they painted individual dog sculptures, practiced on their own models and learned a lot about painting techniques and art in general. Lunch breaks were spent outside in the sunshine, where further questions about art were discussed.

The highlight of the Summer Art Camp was the closing vernissage of the students’ artworks created during the week. The students invited their parents, friends, teachers and family members. So many of the guests were impressed by just how much the students had learnt during the week and how beautiful their artworks were, the exhibition was indeed a huge success!

We would like to thank Ms. Schulenberg for her commitment to this creative Art Camp and we look forward to the upcoming Summer Art Camp in 2020!

Ms. Schulenberg offers creative courses in her studio at Hermannsplatz 7 in Neuss. If you are interested please visit her website: kunst-am-platz.de

A week of an exciting and creative ISR Art Camp came to an end last Friday! Ms. Schulenberg, one of our ISR parents, led the ISR Art Camp again this year with a limited number of students. She prepared an exciting week for our students to try their hand at different artistic expressions and let their creativity run free. One of our upper school students, Lennart, supported Ms. Schulenberg during the camp week, and he did an amazing job – thank you Lennart!

The week culminated in an amazing art exhibition in which the students displayed the creative artworks that they had worked on all week. The results speak for themselves!

We are already looking forward to the ISR Art Camp next year!

Outstanding IB Results - Graduation Class of 2020

On 12th June 2020, the ISR Graduating Class of 2020 received their ISR High School Diplomas during a much anticipated celebratory ceremony. After weeks of waiting, the IB (International Baccalaureate®) results have finally been published, opening the doors for our students to attend prestigious universities worldwide.

On behalf of the entire ISR community, we congratulate our graduates on their outstanding International Baccalaureate® (IB) exam results! Overall, our graduating class achieved an average of 37 points out of 45 points. Thus, we not only continued our above-average performance from the previous school year but exceed it. Besides, 10% of the class earned 40 or more points, which corresponds to an Abitur score of 1.3 or better.

Our graduates may choose from an average of four university offers per graduate from renowned universities from all over the world, not including those offered by German universities. This year’s university offers include Princeton University (with substantial scholarship); University of Southern California; University of Notre Dame; University of Miami; University of Cambridge; Imperial College London; London School of Economics; University College London; King’s College London; University of Toronto, as well as universities in the Netherlands, Japan, Italy, Spain, France, Canada, Switzerland, and South Africa.

These outstanding results as well as the numerous offers from high ranking universities reflect on the success of our teaching staff and the tireless efforts our students have sustained throughout their journey at ISR. Our graduates have excelled and leave ISR as young adults with high ambitions and goals.

They are all further proof our motto, “we enable great minds and strong characters”. We are very proud of their outstanding achievement!

Our doors will always remain open for our graduating class and their families, and we look forward to seeing many familiar faces again in December at our Alumni Reunion.

We wish you all the best for the future!

Class of 2020 – ISR Graduation Ceremony

Tuesday, 16 June 2020

On Friday, June 12, 2020, it was again time for us to celebrate the successes of another ISR Graduating Class. Our 56 graduates and their families gathered in the extensive grounds of Haus Meer City Park to celebrate the end of their eventful time at ISR with a ceremonial awarding of diplomas. Due to the special circumstances, this year’s ISR Graduation Ceremony took place in a beautiful outdoor setting, so that all safety precautions could be observed.

After the ceremonial opening speeches by Mrs. Lyons, Mr. Soliman, and Mr. Cete, the Mayor of Düsseldorf, Mr. Thomas Geisel, also addressed the guests, emphasizing the current importance of tolerant and cosmopolitan togetherness as well as his long-standing friendship with ISR.

Afterwards, two of our graduates, Dorothea and Ibrahim, reviewed the eventful time of the graduating class and recalled with great joy many wonderful memories of the past years as well as some humorous comments about each of their classmates. Afterwards, a musical performance by our graduates followed, which included an “Ode to Joy” as the ISR School Song and the European anthem.

Finally, all 56 students received their ISR High School Diplomas, which now opens the doors to prestigious universities worldwide.

We are extremely grateful to have been able to accompany this year’s graduating class for many years and to have completed an important milestone in their lives together with them. Each of our graduates is a further proof of our motto: “We enable great minds and strong characters” and we are sure that the future holds only the best for our students.

We would like to thank all parents, teachers and employees who have contributed significantly to the success of the graduating class 2020 and who have accompanied this class on its way.

Dear students – stay in touch and keep this unforgettable time in good memory. Each of you has shaped ISR in your own way and we are proud to be a part of your own history as well. Our doors are always open for you and your families.

Go out and shape the world, ISR Graduates!

ISR For Charity: Students sew 250 masks for the St. Augustine Group

ISR For Charity: Students sew 250 masks for the St. Augustine Group

Two weeks ago our partner, the Rotary Club of Neuss, made us aware that the the St. Augustinus Gruppe Neuss was looking for self-made masks for their numerous health and care facilities. Various families as well as our Grade 11 CAS students saw this as a fantastic opportunity to help out and sewed hundreds of masks for those in need!

Last Wednesday, we successfully collected an impressive amount of 250 self-made masks and handed them over to the St. Augustine Group. Max, one of the students who chose this project as part of his CAS program and sewed 100 masks in ISR colors, along with our CAS coordinator, Andre Urban, handed over the donation to Ms. Souli and Mr. Richter, one of the Directors of the St. Augustine group. To round off the donation, ISR additionally added 300 disposable masks. All these masks will be now given to homes for the elderly and facilities for people with disabilities.

We are very happy that so many ISR students have participated in the project and that the school community has once again shown such strong cohesion!

Some of our employees took a look at our new ISR Kindergarten building in Düsseldorf Niederkassel today. The construction work has progressed impressively in the last weeks and the building is looking fantastic! Our new Kindergarten families can expect a new and modern building flooded with space and light that will leave nothing to be desired!

In addition to our holistic learning and education concept, our new Kindergarten will have five large group rooms with direct access to the carefully designed playground. Another clue: all rooms have a play gallery where our little explorers can read, play, or relax!

We cannot wait for the opening in summer!

„Hina Matsuri“, Japanese “Girls Day" at ISR

„Hina Matsuri“, Japanese “Girls Day" at ISR

In Japan, March 3 is “Girls Day,” also known as “Hina Matsuri”. This is a special day for girls to celebrate their health and happiness. From the end of February to March 3rd, families display their daughters graceful dolls dressed in Japanese ancient costumes.

In ancient Japan, it was believed that dolls could confine evil spirits, and nowadays the dolls are displayed to ensure girls healthy and happy future. Such a lovely tradition which was shared with our Kindergarten children yesterday by representatives of our Japanese community. Thank you so much ladies!!

Regional School Chess Championships at the ISR

Regional School Chess Championships at the ISR

Last Friday, we hosted the Regional School Chess Championships in the ISR sports hall. In the morning session, twelve Primary Schools with more than 90 players competed against each other. Our grade 4 student Subramanian was particularly outstanding as he won all his matches and was honored as the best player of the entire tournament.

As a team, our Primary students placed 2nd and qualified for the first time for the next round in Düsseldorf. In the afternoon, our Middle School team competed and was able to achieve an excellent third place. A huge ISR thanks to our chess coaches Mr. Bernhard Stillger and Mr. Laurence Webb who prepared our teams and coached them during the tournament.
