ISR Halloween Spirit Day

ISR Halloween Spirit Day

Friday, 30 October 2020

Today was one of our favourite Spirit Days – Halloween!

Our Kindergarten children were dressed in beautiful and scary costumes to celebrate another fun-filled Halloween Spirit Day at ISR!

During the week we received a lot of spooky Halloween themed candy donations which have been distributed to our Kindergarten children today. But the fun didn’t end with Trick or Treat! We continued our Spirit Day with an amazing door contest to see which class had the most beautifully decorated door. To round off the day, all ISR Kindergarten children celebrated a spooky Halloween Party in the afternoon with many fun activities planned by our wonderful Kindergarten Team.

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Tom

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Tom

Friday, 30 October 2020

This week, we spotlight our sports-loving eleventh grader Tom, who has been part of the ISR community since last year. Tom moved to ISR from a German school and had to get used to a completely different school system in Grade 10. Last year he showed a lot of ambition and worked impressively through the change of school. His academic coordinator, Ms. McGee, still has fond memories of Tom’s start of school and confirms that he invested a lot of time, especially in the early months, to make the change of school a success.

As part of the CAS Big Brother/Big Sister project, Tom regularly spends time with a second grader and provides support. They meet during breaks and Tom takes on the role of Big Brother. Tom takes this role very seriously and it is important to him that he is a role model for his little brother. He is always available to answer his questions and give him advice. His CAS teacher, Mr. Urban, adds “with Tom, you immediately notice that it comes from the heart. Tom is very reliable and conscientious and an ideal role model for his little brother. The two laugh a lot and enjoy the time together.”

Another matter close to Tom’s heart is sport, as it is one of his greatest passions and he has been an active member of the sports club PSV, for many years. In order to combine his passion with school, he is currently taking the first IB sports course (Exercise and Health Service) at ISR. He also runs a SLOⓇ soccer activity for first and second graders together with our sports teacher, Mr. Johnson. Tom not only supports Mr. Johnson, but also brings his own ideas to the activity. He has great fun motivating the Primary School children and teaching them new techniques. Since Tom became part of the ISR community, he has been very involved and engaged from the beginning. He is appreciated by his classmates and is incredibly polite and reliable. Tom shows great fighting spirit and is an example of how you can achieve just about anything with a strong will and ambition.

We are very proud to spotlight Tom one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

Every Friday, our Student Spotlight Project aims to highlight one of our outstanding students who represent our school motto, “we enable great minds and strong characters”. No matter if it is academic success, special commitment or outstanding character traits – we look forward to sharing each of these success stories.

Hybrid School Start at ISR

ISR Hybrid Education Model

Tuesday, 27 October 2020

The public debate about schools remaining open has flared up again, especially after the Fall Break in NRW. Due to the rising corona numbers in the region, hybrid classroom instruction at ISR began again on October 19. The hybrid model, already proven in March, ensures that distances can be better maintained at ISR and families can decide individually whether students attend classes from home or physically at ISR.

The hybrid education model is supported by mandatory masks, increased hygiene measures, a regular airing of rooms and temperature control upon entering ISR. Our staff members were also tested for corona virus on the first day back after the break to ensure the best possible protection for our ISR community.

Virtual Career Talk by Henkel board member Jan-Dirk Auris

Virtual Career Talk by Henkel board member Jan-Dirk Auris

Monday, 21 October 2020

Following on from a series of lectures held by the Henkel Group in recent years, which has been particularly enriching for our students, we had the great honor today to welcome Mr. Jan-Dirk Auris, a member of the Management Board of Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, virtually today.

Mr. Auris took the time to give an inspiring career talk to selected ISR students. He shared personal experiences as well as valuable tips and recommendations with the students, who had to apply for this exclusive meeting in advance.

After Mr. Auri’s lecture, four Henkel employees reported on their career paths and everyday work and thus gave the students an exclusive look behind the scenes of the corporation. The event was rounded off with a Q&A session, where the students had the unique opportunity to ask Mr. Auris and his team open questions about their career paths and the opportunities for entry and promotion at Henkel.

Lectures and meetings like these are held regularly at ISR to introduce our students to the best possible career paths as well as to corporations and companies. We are therefore all the more pleased that this event was able to take place despite the more stringent corona measures and that the students were thus able to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

We would like to thank Mr. Jan-Dirk Auris and his dedicated team colleagues for their time and expertise!

ISR Autumn Art Camp

ISR Autumn Art Camp

Monday, 19 October 2020

Last week our ISR Autumn Art Camp was successfully held with a limited number of students. Bettina Schulenberg, a parent at ISR, prepared a week filled with creative ideas and lots of fun for our ISR students.

Each day, our students immersed themselves deeply in the art world and had the opportunity to try their hands at different art techniques. This included canvas painting, wood, and other objects, as well as carving pumpkins according to the season.

The daily program included having lunch together, which gave everyone an opportunity to share thoughts about the previous day, what they enjoyed working on and what they are excited to try to do.

The students also enjoyed a pleasant picnic in the schoolyard, where they ate sushi, fruit salad and freshly baked cookies together while listening to inspiring music. Ms. Schulenberg ensured that there was variety to the week, creative games were played and everyone had great fun.

The week ended with a fantastic exhibition of the students’ work. Together they proudly displayed their works. All the students that it was a refreshing week, and we hope for as much success at the next ISR Art Camp.

We would like to thank Mrs. Schulenberg for this exciting week!

ISR Sports & Fun Autumn Camp

Monday, 19 October 2020

During the Autumn Break, the ISR Sports & Fun Camp was successfully held for the first time with a limited number of ISR students. We look back on a week filled with a diverse sports program where fun was certainty had.

The camp was led by Mr. Mo and Mr. Jeff, who planned different sports activities for the students each day. These included tricky obstacle courses that tested the students’ sense of balance and dexterity. Their daily routine included having lunch together, during which the students were treated to delicious lunches by our in-house caterer Broich Catering.

The highlight of the week was the group visit to the trampoline park Jump Galaxy in Düsseldorf last Wednesday. Besides having fun jumping on the trampoline, the students enjoyed going up and down the many different climbing walls. The group had lunch there and afterward continued having a day full of fun. It was a very eventful week for our students! Thank you to our star staff Mr. Mo and Mr. Jeff for planning such an exciting week for the students!
