Art Project for the Environment

The Young Artist Group, an SLO® activity which runs weekly at ISR, recently created artwork that also serves as a statement about environmental conservation.

50 students, working with the art teacher, Mrs. Simpson Worboys, are helping to reduce the amount of plastic going into the sea by creating reusable “Turtle” statement cloth bags. The goal of these bags is to encourage students and their families to use their “Turtle” Bags on a daily basis rather than a plastic bag. These students are proud their art project can help lead to better environmental practices and they hope to inspire others to reduce, reuse, and recycle!

Last week, ISR’s Student Life Organization (SLO®) Leadership Team gather together to celebrate the school year’s great successes. The SLO® Leadership Team accomplished a great deal in Academic Year 2018-2019 and each student showed commitment and hard work all throughout the year.

From the Leadership Weekend to the Lock In and the Spring Dance, SLO® Prefects worked hard to make an impact on their school community. SLO® is only as strong as those involved and committed to making it the best it can be.

Congratulations to all the students on the SLO® Leadership Team for an amazing year!

Spotlight On Our Student Madeleine

Madeleine is now in her first year of the IB Diploma Programme but she has been a Star Student at ISR since 1st Grade.  Her studies include Higher Level Mathematics, Physics and Art and Standard Level English, German and French but she has also dedicated herself to ISR’s Model United Nations team this school year in a new capacity.

As a veteran delegate of our ISR team, she was inspired to recruit our first MUN Executive Team and under her leadership the team planned and executed our first student run conference.  We are thankful to have Madeleine at ISR, who shows our students and staff that with hard work and dedication, you can dream bigger! Thank you, Madeleine and congratulations!

We are proud to spotlight Madeleine, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Our “Student Spotlight” project aims to highlight every Friday one of our outstanding students who is, appropriate to this year’s theme, “Staying Ahead”. No matter if academic achievements, special commitment, or outstanding character traits – we look forward to sharing each of these success stories.

ISR at the Queen’s Birthday Celebration

On Wednesday, 5th June, we were honoured to attend the Queen’s Birthday celebration, which took place this year at the Galopprennbahn Düsseldorf.

The Official Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and invitation from the British Consul-General Mr. Rafe Courage presented a wonderful opportunity to celebrate British-German relations and represent ISR as some of our staff were invited to the celebration, too.

We met many fascinating individuals and shared with them the latest information about our school and our new Kindergarten opening in Niederkassel. It was a wonderful evening and we look forward to the next Queen’s Birthday Celebration in 2020

Mr. Thoren from Augenhilfe Afrika e.V. visited ISR

Yesterday Mr. Franz Thoren visited ISR to talk to our Grade 8 students about the Organization, Augenhilfe Afrika e.V., which supports Cameroonian ophthalmologists Dr. Raoul Cheuteu and Dr. Giles Kagmeni. Through donations and subsidies, Augenhilfe Afrika e.V. supports the establishment and operation of a mobile eye clinic which serves the population in remote rural regions throughout Cameroon.

Mr. Thoren showed our students the impressive work of the organization through a presentation and pictures. One of the most moving stories was about individuals who had such serve cataracts that they could no longer see. All it took to change those patients’ lives and help them see again was a 30-minute operation that removed cataracts. ISR would like to thank Mr. Thoren for his visit and wish the organization continued success. Indian Consul General visits ISR

Indian Consul General visits ISR

Tuesday, 04 June 2019

Today we had the honour to welcome the Indian Consul General Mrs. Parkar for the second time to our school. During her previous visit in March, Mrs. Parkar was introduced to our parents, students and our management team. We then discussed various projects moving forward and we were given the opportunity to exhibit a photo exhibition of Mahatma Gandhi at ISR.

Since March, our students have researched Gandhi’s inspiring story and the project work in the classroom has culminated in essays and posters on the famous civil rights activist. Today our students were given the opportunity to display their creatively designed projects to Mrs. Parkar, who was thoroughly impressed by the achievement of the students.

All participating students were awarded small gifts by Mrs. Parkar as a token of her appreciation. We are very proud of our students and would like to thank the Indian Consul General for her visit and for providing our students with this wonderful opportunity.

ISR Students at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf

On Saturday, 1st June, our students were honored to present their own piano compositions during the Schumann Festival as a prologue to the performance of the renowned artist Gabriela Montero at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. After their own performance, the students had the amazing opportunity to meet Ms Montero in person and spend some time with her.

A huge thank you to the Tonhalle Düsseldorf for making this possible and thank you to our dedicated teachers, who prepared our talented students for their impressive debut. We are already looking forward to the next Schumannfest.

Summer concerts at ISR

Summer concerts at ISR

Saturday, 01 June 2019

This week at ISR, we celebrated the start of summer with our summer concerts, performed by our students in Grades 1-8.  Every morning teachers, parents, friends and students gathered in the cafeteria to enjoy the concerts and performances by the students, thus starting off the day in a great mood. The tiny tots in the Kindergarten kicked off the summer concerts last Friday with a lot of dancing, singing and instrumental performances. Not to be outdone, our grades 1-8 gave their best this week and commenced their concerts with our ISR school song. In addition to the concerts, there were numerous ballet performances as well as acting performances by our very talented students.

Technical support for the concert was provided by SLO® Club “ISR Sound Crew”, which took care of the sound system during the concert series. The students of the SLO® Club Creative Minds, led by ISR Mum, Susie Seum, were responsible for the superbly decorated stage and the light show.

Parents had the opportunity to get together after the concerts and enjoy the rest of their morning over snacks and beverages.

We would like to thank everyone involved for their support! Our talented students have astounded us with their outstanding performances. A huge thank you goes to our dedicated music, drama and dance teachers, for their time and efforts in preparing and mentoring our students over months.

Our next musical highlight follows on 1st June at the Schumannfest. See you there!
