Grade 11 Economics Students Visit Vodafone

Yesterday, a group of Grade 11 economics students, visited the campus of Vodafone to get an insight into the dynamics of this global company. The students had the opportunity to take part in the virtual reality simulator. They also participated in a tour of the Vision and Experience World area situated on the 18th floor of the Vodafone Tower.

The students very much enjoyed the visit as they learned about a few of the most fundamental economic and business principles and the impact of the wider spectrum of globalization as a whole.  Their trip ended with a visit to Pepper, Vodafone’s iconic robot, as well a conversation with the company’s Senior Manager for Public Affairs. Thanks to Vodafone for hosting our students!

Staff Appreciation Day at ISR

Today,  our wonderful parent network organized a Staff Appreciation Day! Students surprised their teachers and other staff members of the school with flowers and treats. This small token of appreciation means a lot to all of us working at ISR and brought a big smile to everyone’s face.

Thank you all!

ISR International Spring Festival 2019

ISR International Spring Festival 2019

Monday, 06 May 2019

In keeping with the theme: “Many Cultures – one global language: education” hundreds of partners, guests and friends of our school came together to celebrate cultural diversity here at ISR during our annual International Spring Festival last Saturday.

ISR families from over 44 countries came dressed in traditional attire to represent their country. In addition to showcasing their national games, arts and crafts, they also brought various homemade delicacies from all over the world for the delicious “Taste of the World” buffet.

Students presented their projects in their classrooms and visitors had the opportunity to view numerous art exhibitions on display throughout the school. Fun-filled activities, sponsored by our partners and supported by our SLO® Students, as well as a colorful open-air stage program entertained our guests. Numerous bands, dancers and artists created an outstanding atmosphere on campus.

The children participated also in a challenging “Multisport Competition” organized by our PE Department. Other sporty activities included playing life-size giant Human Soccer and Hockey with our Partner HTC Schwarz-Weiss Neuss e.V.

These beautiful moments were captured on camera by one of our wonderful ISR mothers and professional photographer (Melanie Osterried Fotografie), who also offered additional Family Fun Portraits for all visitors for free. A raffle with great prizes for kids closed off the wonderful event.

We would like to thank all our visitors and partners who made this day special and of course a huge thank you to our teachers and students who worked so hard to make this event a success. Additionally, a special thank you goes to our outstanding parents, who once again surpassed themselves with this year’s “Taste of the World” Buffet and who lovingly decorated the whole school.

The combined efforts of our entire community just goes to show – Good schools are made of students, great schools are made of families! We’re already looking forward for next year’s International Spring Festival Celebration!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Sitong

Spotlight On Our Student Sitong

Sitong, Grade 8, is a musically gifted student. In a duet together with Ruiying from Grade 7, she achieved first place in the regional music competition “Jugend musiziert”, playing the saxophone. This qualified her to the state-wide competition where she was second runner-up!

Sitong’s saxophone teacher says she is an extremely disciplined student and he believes she has the skills and talents to pursue music on a professional level later on in life. In spite of demanding academic commitments, Sitong always finds time to practice and she never finds a challenge impossible, only motivation to try harder. Besides music, Sitong is a very talented art student and enjoys playing badminton with her friends.

We are proud to spotlight Sitong, one of many of ISR’s outstanding students!

Our “Student Spotlight” project aims to highlight every Friday one of our outstanding students who is, appropriate to this year’s theme, “Staying Ahead”. No matter if academic achievements, special commitment, or outstanding character traits – we look forward to sharing each of these success stories.

Dental Hygiene Education Day

Today we were delighted to welcome Dr. Vali-Pursche (dentist and ISR mother) who provided her yearly Dental Hygiene Education Day at ISR for Grade 1 to 4. Students learned about the normal development of teeth, the causes of cavities, and ways to improve your dental hygiene.

Students also had the opportunity to practice teeth cleaning techniques under supervision from the dentist. A huge THANK YOU to Dr. Vali-Pusche for teaching our students how important and fun dental hygiene is!

ISR at the METRO Marathon Düsseldorf 2019

ISR at the METRO Marathon Düsseldorf 2019

Thursday, 02 May 2019

This year too, ISR was finely represented at the METRO Marathon via our runners and our bright yellow American school bus. Around 20 ISR students successfully competed in the Kids Cup and performed outstandingly well. We are very proud of our youngest marathon enthusiasts and can’t wait for them to embark on their first marathon relay race.

Not only our students, but also numerous parents and staff members enthusiastically participated in the marathon. They demonstrated strong group performances in the marathon relay. A special mention goes to an ISR mum for her team spirit in jumping in spontaneously and running almost half a marathon. At the end, all runners proudly took home a medal and ended the eventful afternoon with a cosy get-together with music, drinks and a few snacks. The exciting day came to a lovely end with everyone exchanging their personal running stories and marathon experiences.

We can’t wait for the next METRO Marathon and would like to thank all participants and helpers for their support and METRO for the outstanding organization.
