Spotlight On Our Student Ruiying

Ruiying, Grade 7, started at ISR this school year and has already been a great addition to our school. She loves to play the piano and practices every single moment she has spare time. Even during the holidays, she spends most of her time playing.

Earlier this year, she achieved the first place in the regional music competition “Jugend musiziert”, playing the piano in a duet with her friend Sitong (saxophone), scoring 24 out of 25 points. This qualified her to the state-wide competition where she was second runner-up! Ruiying is also currently working on her own composition work with a group of students. Her music teacher already sees great potential for her future.

In addition, Ruiying is not only a wonderful musician but a great badminton player and a “delightful and a wonderful addition to the Badminton Team” to quote her coach Nikki Johnstone. She is also very involved in our Student Life Organization^® and a great friend with a helping hand.

Spotlight On Our Student Julius

Julius, Grade 12, has been a student at ISR since Kindergarden and is a great example of what Staying Ahead looks like. He has not only achieved and maintained a top academic performance at ISR, but also through dedication, hard work, and determination has balanced a full-time soccer schedule with the professional soccer club Fortuna Düsseldorf as team captain of the U17 German Bundesligateam.

Now, we are very proud to officially congratulate Julius on his next career step: the enthusiastic and highly gifted soccer player has just signed a new contract for the U19 German Bundesliga with one of Germany‘s best professional soccer clubs, BVB Borussia Dortmund. Following graduation in spring he can fully focus on pursuing a professional soccer career. Congratulation Julius! In addition to his academic and sport pursuits, he is known around the ISR campus for being a kind and thoughtful student and a great friend.

Spotlight On Our Student Luo

Our grade 8 student, Luo, has only been at ISR for a year but is already fully integrated. He is very active in our Student Life Organisation and is the designated movie maker for any school trip or school event. If you have been lucky to see his movies you know they are amazing, especially his drone recordings. Luo also excels academically and received multiple awards for his various accomplishments during the awards ceremony held two weeks ago.

What Luo loves most about being a student at ISR is the academic focus and seeing every student try their best. He also appreciates the various ways that ISR teachers structure their lessons to make them interesting and engaging for the students.

Spotlight On Our Student Gioia

Gioia, Grade 12, has been a student at ISR since first grade. From the beginning, Gioia was a child full of spirits and it has been our pleasure to see her grow into a responsible and goal focused young woman who is preparing for Graduation in June.

Gioia is currently one of seven IB students taking part in this year’s IB Art Exhibition. She is a very talented artist and has worked very hard to finish her project focusing on love. Her artwork will be displayed in the school over the next week and starting on March 26th it will be part of an exhibition at the Deutsche Bank in Düsseldorf.

As Gioia looks toward the future, she wants to study business and she already holds offers from a number of Dutch universities. With her proactive attitude and drive for results, we have no doubt that Gioia will go on to do great things!

Spotlight On Our Student Albert

Albert is a new student to ISR but he has really found his path to success in school through both academics and sports. Albert is a bright student who is currently enrolled in the IB program. Back in February, Albert competed in the German Indoor Track and Field Championships in Sindelfingen and reached the finals in the 60 meters hurdles race.

With 8.13 seconds in the semi-finals, Albert not only improved his personal best time but he also finished as one of the top eight best hurdle sprinters in Germany in his age group. Albert’s victory was featured in the Rheinische Post. 8.13 seconds over 60 meters with obstacles in the way, we are seriously impressed, Albert!

Spotlight On Our Student Dana

This week our student spotlight turns to Dana in Grade 8. Dana has been an ISR student since Grade 1 and she is a Senior Prefect in the Social Responsibility Department of SLO®. But beyond life at ISR, Dana has a passion for dancing and competitions.

Earlier this month, Dana competed in “Jewrovision”, a competition for young aspiring Jewish performers aged 10 to 19 who compete against each other with an overarching theme of Jewish heritage. Dana practiced with her team for 3 months with a choreographer and a vocal coach to put together a dance and singing routine under the theme of Chai (or life in Hebrew). 1,500 competitors from Jewish youth centers across Germany gathered in Frankfurt and performed their pieces in front of a panel of judges, including 2018 Eurovision winner, Netta Barzilai. Amazingly, Dana and her team finished in an impressive second place! This is quite an achievement!

Spotlight On Our Student Filippa

Our this week’s Spotlight is our first grader Filippa. This is what her teacher, Ms Adrienne Stening-Smith, said about her: Filippa is incredibly kind, caring and loving, to both her fellow students and teachers. I found a quote that describes her perfectly… Do things for people not because of what they do in return, but because of who you are. – Harold S. Kushner.

She has an enormous heart filled with so much love. She always thinks of the students and puts them before her. She shares and always makes delicious treats for our class. She is an exceptional example to what I believe the definition of kindness is. For example, on Valentine’s Day she handmade some cakes for her fellow students. She also brought a lollipop for each one of the students in our class who are unable to eat gluten due to an intolerance.

Filippa has also helped another student in her class. This particular student battles with low self-confidence and Filippa is always there building him up and encouraging him. Because of her help, he has grown so much!

Spotlight On Our Student Abby

Abby, Grade 10, is the current Deputy Head of Discipline in ISR’s Student Life Organization. Abby and her team from the Discipline Department were the organizers behind Random Acts of Kindness. Thanks to Abby’s dedication, positive attitude, and hard work, the week was filled with kind acts and smiles across the school.

Abby, who has been at ISR for almost four years, is also an outstanding student whose results put her at the top of her class at ISR. She is passionate about, learning, especially in the area of Biology.

Spotlight On Our Student Emir

Emir (Grade 2) is an intrinsically motivated learner, kind friend, and all around wonderful student. Even though Emir is in Grade 2, he continues to share his time and energy helping in Grade 1.

Emir was in Ms. Insells Writing Club last year and was invited to come back this year to help inspire the first graders – and even to write himself. He eagerly accepted this invitation and willingly gives up his play time every Tuesday afternoon to come and support our first graders with their writing. This passion for learning and dedication to being a kind member of the ISR community is commendable!

Spotlight On Our Student Felicia

With a big heart for others! Felicia, in Grade 6, is an exceptionally positive, caring, and active student.

Not only does she bring joy to others by singing in the school choir and being part of our modern dance group, but she is also committed to helping others through her wonderful sawing skills in the “Heart 2 Heart” charity project. This project, initially started by American International Women’s Club of Düsseldorf (AIWCD), makes heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients, as a way to spread joy and help relieve pain while patients are in the hospital. Felicia has showed enthusiasm for the Heart 2 Heart project and works hard each week.
