Another Amazing CAS Project

Another Amazing CAS Project:
socializing in a virtual way with people in an elderly home

Friday, 26 February 2021

One of our Grade 11 IB students, Chiranan, has come up with a wonderful idea as part of her community service CAS project. Because of the pandemic, she tried to find a way for elderly people to keep in contact with others, be able to have conversations and getting a distraction from their daily routine. Under normal conditions, she would have been able to go and visit them but due to the current situation with COVID-19, she was not able to. However, that didn’t stop her from carrying out this project! Chiranan installed an iPad in a community room in the home in order to call and video chat several times a week with the elderly people there. This gives everyone the great opportunity to meet and socialize, at least virtually.

Chiranan states, that usually the elderly people are always excited to talk to her and in particular those with dementia love to ask her many questions. “Personally I find this very important because they don’t get to talk to a lot of different people during these times and it makes them very happy!”  In this photo, you can see her showing her dog to one of the residents.

We are immensely proud of our students, who never let anything get in the way of making a positive impact.

Well done, Chiranan!

German University Acceptance

ISR signed an agreement to offer an additional 16-hour module in vector calculus to complement and extend our IB Mathematics Standard Level (SL) course. This addition will enable ISR’s IB Standard Level Math students to access German university technical studies, such as Mathematics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences. Students who complete the Mathematics High Level (HL) course remain qualified to study any subject at German universities.

The IBO recognition agreement was signed earlier this year so that the current IB diploma graduates can already benefit from this additional study and career opportunity.

Happy Valentine´s Day!

Happy Valentine´s Day from ISR!

Sunday, 14 February 2021

Dear ISR Family,

It’s been almost a year now since the pandemic started affecting Germany, and since then, much of our familiar way of living has been altered. Our regular “in-person” interactions, such as our events, our conferences, and one-on-one meetings with you have all been missing during the last year. Despite these circumstances, our ISR Community is as strong as ever and we can look confidently into the future, knowing that if anything, the pandemic has drawn us much closer as a community.

Our love for education is the appropriate theme for today because excellent education enriches the lives of people around the world. For 18 years, this has been our mission – to provide the best education for our students.

Happy Valentine´s Day!

Valentine's Day Cards

Our Primary Team has come up with a lovely project for Valentine´s Day to spread a little happiness to children all over the world.
Our students put a lot of effort into designing individual virtual cards to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day. With these lovingly designed cards, they want to put a smile on the faces of everyone who sees them.

We thank our Primary Team for organizing this creative project and of course our students for their time and effort. The cards turned out wonderfully!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Lori

Friday, 12 February 2021

This week, we spotlight our Kindergarten Student Lori, who joined ISR in 2019. Lori not only knows her way around our Kindergarten in Neuss excellently but also our Kindergarten in Düsseldorf. In August 2020, she joined the Niederkassel Kindergarten in KG1. From the beginning, Lori was a keen member of the group and an active participant. She makes friends so easily because she is such a kind and friendly child. She can often be found drawing pictures and she enjoys cutting and sticking immensely. When she is not cutting and sticking, Lori likes to play outside with her friends, especially in the snow!

Although Lori was very confident from the beginning speaking her mother tongue, Mandarin, she has developed her language skills further in English. She is now able to communicate in English confidently and is extremely helpful to those children who are less confident in the language. Every day, she enters Kindergarten with a big smile on her face, greeting her friends and educators cordially. She even shouts, “Boo! Good morning!” to make them laugh sometimes.

Lori has been learning letter sounds and is gaining confidence in being able to read three-letter words. She has also been working on reading and writing numbers to 20. Lori is happy to show that she can count confidently to 20 and beyond. Her teacher, Ms. Perez, adds “Lori is a well-loved member of the class and is a great role model for all children in the group. We are so proud of you Lori!“.

We are very proud to spotlight Lori one of ISR’s many outstanding students!

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Jasmin

Student Spotlights: Spotlight On Our Student Jasmin

Friday, 05 February 2021

This week, we spotlight our ninth-grader Jasmin, who joined ISR in grade 7. She is a hardworking, ambitious, and intelligent young woman who is currently researching future studies in the areas of Psychology, Politics, Law, and Economics. In addition to her academic studies, she is also the Deputy Head of the Activities Department in the Student Life Organization. This year she has directed her team of prefects to help the community celebrate Halloween, organize a Christmas Market for students, and create fun challenges that we can participate in while learning from home.

Jasmin has a tremendous work ethic and constantly strives to enrich her knowledge. Not only that, but she participates in all discussions and is self-driven but works equally well within a group. She is now reading challenging articles from The Guardian not only to improve her English skills but to be more aware of what is going in the world around her. Jasmin shows a great sense of responsibility and runs a successful booster session on Mondays to support other students. She takes her role there very seriously and likes to support her classmates.  Her teacher, Mr. McGee, says about her ”Her natural inquisitiveness in history class shows a genuine interest in the subject and is helpful to her peers. She always shows her interest through questions about the content and structure of the course. Despite her proficiency in the subject, which she has already consistently shown, she is always challenging herself to improve and to know more about the subject and how to approach the challenging IGCSE question style. The course asks a lot of students, and she is meeting or exceeding all expectations.”

Jasmin is incredibly dedicated and her teachers are absolutely convinced by her. Jasmin’s Spanish teacher, Ms. Hautz, confirms this, and finally adds “She always enriches the lesson with questions that go beyond the surface, as she is really interested and learning Spanish. Well done!”

We are very proud to spotlight Jasmin one of ISR’s many outstanding students!
