Camp Read-A-Lot
Wednesday, 27 November 2019
Last Friday, for the first time, our Upper Primary team and the ISR Library hosted a literacy event called “Camp Read-A-Lot”. The goal of the event was to show students that reading is fun and motivate them to continue reading in the future.
Parents and students brought tents and tepees, sleeping bags, and flashlights so the whole camping experience would be as authentic as possible. Ms. Ghica opened the event by reading a book about camping, ‘A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee’ by Chris van Dusen. After that, parents and children retreated to their tents and started reading on their own. They had a selection of about 25,0000 different books in different languages from our library’s collection.
Outside the Library, there were activities for students like Comprehension Catchers, bookmark coloring, creative writing prompts, and Roll-A-Story cubes. At the end of the evening, children and parents were able to enjoy some hot chocolate, marshmallows, and cookies. It was a fun evening and all students enjoyed reading to their parents! We thank all participants, parents, teachers, and helpers for this great event and are already looking forward to the next Camp Read-A-Lot!
