ISR Student Spotlight: Amanda
This week, we are delighted to spotlight our remarkable ninth-grader, Amanda. Since joining ISR’s Kindergarten in 2015, Amanda has blossomed into a remarkable student and a valued member of our community. Now a part of our ISR Secondary School, she continues to leave a positive impression on her teachers.
Ms. Lambertz, who works in our kindergarten, fondly recalls Amanda’s early years: “I remember her in my KG2 class with Ms. Corulas. She always wore lovely dresses and was impeccably neat. She was smart and quite shy back then. Look at her now – she’s so confident and as beautiful as ever. Keep it up, Amanda. You are a shining star!”
Amanda has truly come full circle by taking on the role of Kindergarten Prefect, a responsibility she approaches with great dedication. The children adore her and are thrilled to see her, benefiting from her positive attitude.
Amanda has made a significant and highly valued impact on our school community. Ms. McLeod, Head of ISR’s Elementary School praises Amanda: “Amanda has been a cherished member of our school community for many years. Known for her ever-present smile and positive attitude, Amanda is a beacon of kindness and support to everyone around her. Her willingness to help others and her friendly demeanor make her an invaluable part of our school. Thank you, Amanda, for being such a wonderful role model and for your unwavering commitment to making ISR a better place for all!
In addition to her prefect duties, Amanda is an active member of our SLC School Spirit Department, helping organize popular Spirit Days. Recently, she volunteered at the Meerbusch Sonnenblumenfest with fellow SLC students, impressing everyone with her excellent face painting skills. SLC Coordinator Ms. Bennet says of Amanda: “Amanda is a joy to have on our team. She knows the school well and is eager to participate in our SLC initiatives. She is creative, helpful, and a joy to work with. Amanda has so much to offer, and we are grateful to have her on our team!”

ISR Student Spotlight: Lisa
This week, we are delighted to spotlight our exceptional third-grader, Lisa. Since joining ISR in 2021, Lisa has consistently impressed her teachers with her confident demeanor, positive attitude, and dedication to her schoolwork.
Lisa was nominated for the ISR Student Spotlight by her teacher, Ms. Duenas, who praises her as a remarkable role model both in and out of the classroom. Ms. Duenas notes, “Lisa participates actively in class and expresses herself clearly and confidently. She is always eager to learn and stays focused on her tasks. Her kindness towards others and exemplary behavior makes her a joy to teach. She is respectful and always wears a smile.”
Lisa’s second-grade teacher, Ms. Albanese, echoes this sentiment: “Lisa is a dedicated student and a sweet, caring person. She works hard and has a genuine love for learning. Her brilliance shines through in her creative problem-solving and determination. I enjoyed reading her incredible stories and texts, filled with special details and original ideas. She relishes challenges and has a real passion for math and solving complex questions. Additionally, Lisa is very artistic, taking great care with her drawings and paying attention to detail.”
“Above all, Lisa is incredibly caring and humble. She is always ready to help others and is friendly and kind to everyone around her. Her presence exudes calmness and happiness, making it a joy to spend time with her”
Ms. Kilian, Lisa’s first-grade teacher, adds: “Lisa was a kind and helpful child who always came to school with a smile. She was a dedicated learner with an admirable work ethic, making her a true role model in the classroom. Teaching her was a pleasure. She loved solving math problems and was always willing to help others.”
Our Elementary School management team also holds Lisa in high regard. Ms. Ghica, Head of Grades 2 and 3, highlights Lisa’s exceptional qualities: “Lisa consistently demonstrates creativity and innovation in problem-solving. Her unique perspective allows her to tackle challenges thoughtfully and impressively. Her dedication combined with critical thinking skills makes her a standout student.”
Ms. Morris, Head of Grades 4 and 5, adds: “Lisa is a shining star both in and out of the classroom. She contributes insightful perspectives during group discussions and treats her peers with kindness and respect. She embodies our motto, ‘it’s cool to be good!’”
Lisa’s music teacher, Ms. Ewing, remarks: “Lisa is hardworking, kind, and smart—a fantastic role model who respects everyone in class.”
Finally, her sports teacher, Mr. Hoste, shares: “Teaching Lisa in PE has been a pleasure since last year. She is motivated, polite, takes initiative, shows great sportsmanship, and is a real team player!”

This week, we are proud to spotlight our eighth-grader, Paul.
Since joining ISR in 2016, Paul has consistently demonstrated kindness, leadership, and dedication both inside and outside the classroom. He excels academically and is always willing to support his classmates.
Paul was nominated for the ISR Student Spotlight by his teacher, Ms. Chroni, who praises his exceptional presentation skills and natural talent for remaining composed and confident. She notes, “His ability to explain complex ideas clearly and effectively is impressive, and he has the potential to become a leader in any field he chooses to pursue in the future.”
Ms. Megal, another of Paul’s teachers, describes him as “a fantastic student—energetic, with his own opinions, proactive, and well-informed on many topics. If he doesn’t know something, he will undoubtedly seek out information about it, making him a future leader.”
Paul’s sixth-grade teacher, Ms. Freise, fondly recalls him as a remarkable young man who embodies what it means to be a well-rounded individual. She highlights his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to help others: “Whether excelling academically, contributing to group projects, or offering a helping hand to classmates, Paul consistently demonstrates kindness and leadership. Keep up the great work, Paul!”

Spotlight On Our Student Xixi
This week, we are proud to spotlight our sixth-grader, Xixi.
Xixi joined ISR’s Elementary School last school year and quickly impressed his teachers with his intelligence and exceptional math skills. He is not only academically gifted but also friendly and exemplifies excellent behavior in class.
Xixi was nominated for the ISR Student Spotlight by his homeroom teacher, Ms. Palmieri. She praises him, saying, “Xixi is a remarkably smart and creative student who consistently brings exciting and new knowledge to class discussions. We learn new fun facts from him every day! His friendly demeanor creates a positive atmosphere, and his smile lights up the room when he walks in. Xixi’s incredible enthusiasm for learning enriches our lessons and inspires everyone around him. He is kind, polite, and respectful to both his peers and teachers. I am so lucky to have Xixi as a student in 6B!”
Xixi’s fifth-grade homeroom teacher, Mr. Bernard, adds, “Xixi is an incredibly intelligent and friendly student. It was a pleasure to have him in our class. Even though he has moved on to the 6th grade, he still takes the time to say hello!”
Xixi also has a passion for languages and has impressed his French teacher, Ms. Stephan. She remarks, “Xixi is a smart, quiet, and kind boy who enjoys working and participating in class activities. His beautiful smile is always present. He has a good grasp of French and likes to share his knowledge with the class.”
In addition to his linguistic talents, Xixi excels in technology. His Computing teacher, Mr. Grubelic, notes, “Xixi is very adept at writing code and translating his ideas onto the computer screen. In Grade 5, Xixi, along with other Code Club participants, wrote a code representing Earth’s flora and fauna in Python, which astronauts were able to run on the International Space Station as part of the Astro Pi Mission Zero challenge! I can always rely on Xixi to produce astounding work and innovation in Computing. Keep up the great work, Xixi!”

This week, we are proud to spotlight our third-grader, Emma.
Emma joined ISR this past August and has quickly impressed her teachers with her positive attitude and determination to learn and grow as a student. She is focused and consistently works hard to improve herself.
Emma was nominated for the ISR Student Spotlight by her Homeroom teacher, Ms. Springstubbe. She says, “Emma is just an amazing student, who works hard, tries her best, shows resilience, patience and integrity when it comes to learning new things. On top of that, she is a wonderful friend, she is kind, caring, incredibly polite and responsible. We love having her in our class!”
Emma’s English teacher, Ms. Freise, has high praise for her student as well: “In the heart of every classroom, there is always a student who exemplifies the true essence of hard work, determination, and grit. That student is Emma! From the very first day, Emma stood out for her unwavering commitment to learning and growth. She faced challenges that would have caused many others to falter, yet Emma demonstrated that success isn’t always about how quickly you reach your goals, but about the strength you show on the journey. She has a great attitude. In the face of frustration, she doesn’t complain or make excuses. Instead, she asks questions, seeks help when needed, and puts in the extra hours to ensure understanding and improvement. This perseverance is a testament to her character, one who values hard work and understands that growth often comes from the most challenging experiences. She has also been a shining example of kindness and support to her peers.”
Ms. Ghica, the Academic Head of Grade 3 adds, “Shoutout to Emma, an enthusiastic superstar in grade 3! Keep shining with your curiosity, creativity, and love for learning. You’re doing amazing things, and the best is yet to come! Keep up the fantastic work, Emma!”

Spotlight On Our Student Carl
This week, we are proud to spotlight our tenth-grader, Carl.
Carl joined ISR in 2015 and has consistently impressed his teachers with his enthusiasm, positive attitude, and eagerness to learn and create memorable experiences.
His history teacher, Mr. McGee, remarks, “Carl is a standout student in a very accomplished grade 10 class. Having had the pleasure of teaching him for the second year now, I am impressed by his knowledge of the subject, his enthusiasm, and his consistent participation in class. Furthermore, he is one of the leading experts on all things related to Neuss, making him a go-to source for local knowledge and trivia!”
Carl has also been an active member of ISR’s Student Leadership Council (SLC). Last year’s SLC Coordinator, Ms. Bowien, expressed her delight in having Carl on the team, highlighting his willingness to help and eagerness to participate.
Ms. Bennet, Carl’s Theatre teacher and SLC Coordinator, also praises Carl, saying, “Carl is a remarkable young man with exceptional manners and charm. In the short time I have had the pleasure of teaching him, he quickly distinguished himself in theatre, rising to every challenge presented to him. As a member of the Student Leadership Council, Carl consistently demonstrates dedication and a helpful spirit, no matter the task. Recently, he volunteered his time to don the Spirit costume, ISR’s beloved mascot. Each morning, he enthusiastically greeted students returning to school. Carl’s commitment to both the SLC and ISR is incredibly refreshing. As the interim advisor of the SLC, I am reassured knowing that whenever a task needs to be handled, I can always count on Carl. He truly deserves to be recognized this week—congratulations, Carl!”

This week, we are proud to spotlight our exceptional eleventh-grader, Yara, who has been standing out at ISR since joining in 2018. Yara’s journey at ISR has been marked by continuous growth and impressive achievements, culminating in her recent appointment as the SLC Head Prefect for this school year. Her SLC Coordinators, Ms. Bennet and Ms. McGee have great things to say about Yara.
“The Student Leadership Council is excited to honor the new Head Prefect for this year, Yara of Grade 11, for the ISR Student Spotlight. Since she was eligible, Yara has always committed time to being a prefect for the SLC. Her energy and commitment led her to be elected as the Deputy Team Leader of the Discipline Department in Grade 9 and the Team Leader of School Spirit in Grade 10.
Last year, her engagement outside of the classroom, helped her direct her team in organizing the monthly ISR School Spirit Days, but also in collaborating with other departments to help the team successfully run campaigns and events. Our Co-Head Prefects from 2023-2024, Ema and Victoria of Grade 12, add, “We are delighted for Yara to be the Head Prefect this year. Last year, we had the pleasure of working with Yara, where she contributed unwavering devotion and creativity to the SLC community, as well as demonstrate her ability to work with a team and delegate tasks. Yara is a dedicated and diligent leader of SLC, and we are confident in her role as a Head Prefect. We are eager to see her meaningful changes make an impact!”
Yara is also an excellent student inside of the classroom and has always made time for her academic commitments a priority. Her Academic Coordinators are pleased that she has been elected to this role, so she can continue to lead by example in balancing her schoolwork with extracurricular activities.
As SLC Advisors, we know that this will be a year of innovation and impact with Yara guiding our team, and we can’t wait to share the coming events each department has planned. Keep your eye on the SLC!”
As Yara embarks on her role as Head Prefect, the ISR community eagerly anticipates the innovative ideas she will bring to the school. Spotlight On Our Student Yingzhi
This week, we are proud to spotlight our third-grader, Yingzhi.
Yingzhi joined ISR in 2020 and has endeared herself to her teachers and fellow classmates with her drive and positive attitude. She was nominated by her teacher, Ms. Palmieri, who has been impressed by Yingzhi’s performance in her classroom.
“Yingzhi has been such a positive influence in 3D this school year! She starts each morning with a smile and a friendly ‘Good morning!’ to her teacher and classmates. Her organizational skills are outstanding, and her cubby and school materials are always meticulously kept. Yingzhi is friendly, kind and thoughtful. She always makes sure everyone feels included and gets a turn. Additionally, Yingzhi is an excellent inquisitive student. She is never afraid to ask questions and extend her learning. Yingzhi loves to read! Her love for reading is evident in her writing which is filled with enriched vocabulary and the most imaginative ideas. She is a skilled mathematician and a great problem solver. Yingzhi is an all-around wonderful student and classmate. Funny, smart, clever, curious, unique and considerate, all rolled into one! I am excited to see her continued success in Grade 4 next school year!”
Yingzhi’s music teacher, Ms. Bucher, has great things to say about her as well, “Yingzhi has drive! She enjoys working to improve and to excel. But she also has a wonderful sense of humour and is clever with word play. As her Music teacher for three years, I’ve long known what a good musician she is; but I’ve recently learned something else about Yingzhi. She has a knack for engineering, too. The class has been working on creating board games about musical instruments, and Yingzhi’s group decided to create a complex, 3-D board. I have observed her contributing thoughtful input on how to design it and build it so that it stands properly. Yingzhi is an all-around joy!”

This week, we are proud to spotlight our eighth-grader, Eleanor.
Eleanor joined ISR in 2022 and has made an extraordinary impression on her teachers over the past two years. She is praised for her strong work ethic and willingness to help her classmates, as well as her ability to successfully organize her busy schedule.
Mr. Nisic, Eleanor’s homeroom teacher has this to say, “I am delighted to spotlight Eleanor, an excellent 8th grader in my homeroom and mathematics class. Eleanor is always organized, great at explaining math problems and often supports her friends in class.” He goes on to say, “Eleanor is also very active in out-of-school activities. She did a fantastic job at events like the Deutsche Jahrgangsmeisterschaften and in competitive swimming, showing her hard work and talent. Her positive attitude and willingness to help others make our classroom a better place. It is a joy to have her as a student, and she truly deserves this recognition.”
Ms. Przybylski, Eleanor’s German teacher says, “In my lessons Eleanor has always been calm, polite and helpful. She has a creative mind and is open for new things. Despite having arrived in Germany only recently, she quickly developed a strong grasp of the language and was even promoted during the year. She is an enthusiastic athlete and a reliable student. It’s been great to have Eleanor in class as a role-model and a driving force.”
Ms. Leach, Eleanor’s English teacher says, “Eleanor is a model student. As well as being conscientious, hard-working and always ready with insightful contributions in class, she is friendly and spreads a positive mood with her bright smile. Eleanor is motivated to excel academically and is always ready to help her fellow classmates. She has excellent organisational skills and manages her school and sporting responsibilities admirably.”
Ms. Schultz, Eleanor’s Art teacher says, “Eleanor is a wonderful student. She is a very honest person, working very hard and trying her best. In art class, she accomplished all her tasks, and she made huge progress along the year. She asked questions to be clear about the task and to improve her work. She has finished the school year with one of her best artworks, and showed perseverance, consistency and patience for all her projects. Her humbleness and work ethic inspire us all. Despite her busy schedule as a competitive swimmer, she always completes her assignments and is eager to learn and to help others.”
Mr. Perez, Eleanor’s Music teacher explains, “Eleanor is a brilliant student. She brings so much quality and commitment to the learning process. She is responsible, respectful, efficient, productive and thirsty for learning. I am very honoured to be her teacher, and confident she will achieve and experience great things in her life.”

This week, we are proud to spotlight our tenth-grader, Yara.
Yara joined ISR in 2018 and has been impressing her teachers with her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and organizational skills ever since.
Ms. Racheva, Yara’s Sports Teacher has many wonderful things to say about her. “I had the pleasure of teaching Yara since she was in the 5th grade. From the first day of class, Yara impressed me with her smile and positive attitude. She is a sporty, enthusiastic, and energetic person. Yara’s personal strengths are also impressive. She has an active and outgoing presence in class with a great sense of humor. Yara is the perfect person to get a group project rolling, but she also knows how to sit back and let others take the lead.”
Ms. Racheva goes on to say, “Yara is a trustworthy, reliable, and good-humored student and friend, who supports others in and out of the classroom. Her positive attitude and belief in herself, even in the face of difficulty, is an immensely admirable asset. I’m confident that she will continue to demonstrate the same diligence, perseverance, and optimism that she has showed myself and her peers. I am excited to see what she will accomplish in the future. Her cheerful nature and openness to feedback means she’s always learning and growing as a learner. She has impressive strength that will continue to serve her well in college and beyond. She is a driven, engaging, and curious student.”
Yara’s Science Teacher, Mr. Obrien adds, “It is a pleasure to have Yara as a student in my physics class. She is intelligent, diligent and above all her outstanding work ethic is contagious, drawing those seated around her into actively engaging in their tasks.”
Yara is also very active in ISR’s Student Leadership Council. Ms. Bowien, ISR’s SLC Coordinator, as well as Yara’s former Math Teacher says, “Yara is currently the team leader of the SLC School Spirit Department. She has done such an amazing job this year! She is well organized, a hard worker, a proactive student, and just generally polite, friendly, funny, and a delight to work with. Yara is going to be the Head Prefect next year and I know that she will do an outstanding job.”
Ms. Bowien adds, “Not only is Yara a great leader and team player for the Student Leadership Council, but she is also academically very strong. I taught her Mathematics last year, and she is a truly gifted Mathematician who is well organized and dedicated to her schoolwork.”
