All good things must come to an end and June 26th was the end of the 2014/2015 school year at ISR. Together with the ISR staff band, we sang a few songs and celebrated a great year. Afterwards, the school director, Mrs. Eileen Lyons, and owner, Mr. Peter Soliman, expressed their congratulations and thanks for such a successful year to students and staff.
This year’s SLO® introduced some new additions to the team and we are already ecstatic about working with them next year. We wish all of our students, parents, teachers, and staff a great summer break and we look forward to seeing everyone again next school year!
The annual award ceremonies for Grades 1–8 took place at the end of term 3. The school director, Mrs. Eileen Lyons, personally congratulated the students on their exceptional performance, successes and improvements together with their teachers. Students were recognized in all different subject areas including languages, science, math, music, art, sport, SLO® and many more.
The Krocky Mobil visited our 1 and 2 graders on June 15th.
Dr. Heike Fleddermann talked to the students about how important good dental hygiene is and how to correctly brush ones teeth. Afterwards, the students could see how much bacteria is in their mouth in a black light room and practice brushing teeth on hand puppets. Thank you Dr. Fleddermann for the informative talk!
On Sunday, June 14th, forty of our students came together to demonstrate their musical talents. Parents, family, and friends spent a melodious afternoon together at the first Musicbox Oxana concert at ISR.
Students from Kindergarten to Grade 11 presented songs vocally and instrumentally as soloist or in groups. Furthermore, the audience enjoyed classical and modern music played on the piano, violin, drums, saxophone, and guitar. The students did an amazing job and all of the music teachers, the school director, and Mr. Soliman were very proud. We are looking forward to making this an annual concert event!
This past Saturday, over 250 children came to the school to compete in tug-of-war, sack races, soccer games, goal shooting practice with the DEG, and many more activities. Everyone had fun and enjoyed the friendly competitions. Afterwards, children and parents could fill their stomachs with delicious food from the grill, a variety of salads, and a plethora of cakes. Once everyone was full, Mareen, head of SLO®, announced that the winner of this year’s Mini Olympics was the Blue Team.
Thank you SLO® and all of the helpers who made this day possible! We would also like to thank our honoured guests Mr. Grigoris Delavekouras from the Greek Consul and Mr Thomas Nickel for taking time to visit us and our families. It was a great day!
Music has been on a lot of students’ minds this past week.
On Friday, May 29th, some of our students from Grades 3–5 participated in the instrument carousel where they were exposed to a variety of different musical instruments. Each instrument was shown off by performers who explained which sounds that instrument is capable of making and what makes it unique. Afterwards, the children enthusiastically tried to imitate the performers.
“Heading for health and humanity” was the overall theme of this year’s Baltic Model United Nations (MUN) conference held in the beautiful Hanseatic city of Rostock, Germany. This large, reputable and well-organised venue saw eleven of ISR’s grade 11 students successfully represent the countries of Saudi Arabia and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
