Lohri Festival at ISR
Last Saturday, a number of visitors came to ISR and celebrated the Indian Harvest Festival Lohri – also called Pongal or Makar Sankranti in different regions of the subcontinent. The stalls were decorated with beautiful Indian handmade crafts, textiles and jewellery. The visitors also enjoyed a vast array of delicious food. The program on stage included Indian folksongs, violin and keyboard performances as well as classic Bollywood dances, which made the audience feel like they were home for a few moments.
Lohri is not only celebrated as a harvest festival but also as a celebration to honour the end of the Winter Solstice. The highlight of the festival therefore, was a traditional bonfire accompanied by Indian drums, to celebrate the end of the winter season and to rejoice and celebrate the beginning of the longer days.
We would like to thank all our guests for this successful Lohri festival.
