2013–14 SLO® Leadership Weekend for the 3rd year

For the third year Deputy Head Prefects organised the SABIS Student Life Organisation®, a leadership weekend, which took place in Straelen-Herongen in the Lower Rhine region last weekend. The preparation started well before the end of last school year. 33 prefects from Grades 7 to 12 participated this event. The purpose was to get to know all prefects who joined the organization this year, learn how to work together as a team and to develop communication and leadership skills while having fun!

We left school on Friday and after an 1 hour journey we arrived at the “Jugendgästehaus”. The first sessions began with an ice-breaker and team building activities, followed by a typical German dinner with bread, cold cuts and cheese. The day ended with a night walk and watching an inspirational movie!

Saturday started at 08:00 with breakfast... yes an early start! This was followed by 2 sessions: one on Forrest Pedagogic & Falconry and the other one on department meetings. Prefects split into groups to discuss their goals, jobs descriptions and action plan for the year. Lunch was well received!

Right after lunch, we had two more sessions, one was a team building activity, followed by two special projects; Origami cranes, led by Stella Grade 9B, and Flying words, led by Yumi and Lea Dou Dou in Grade 10A. These two amazing projects are going to be display in the SLO® office! Late in the afternoon the prefects organised the delicious BBQ for all with the help of Mr. Urban! The day ended with an amazingly beautiful night walk in the forest. Finally on Sunday, we had another session on Student Life and its structure. During the closing ceremony each of the prefects received a Leadership Certificate.

THANK YOU to Ann-Cathrin, Matthias, Kevin, Leah, Jana, Mareen, Lea Dou Dou, Addison, Yumi, Tim... this year's Deputy Heads who made this event possible. Continue to inspire all around you!
